Holley Sniper EFI: Should You Buy It? 1 Year Review

After owning and using the Holley Sniper EFI on my 1990 Third Gen Chevy Camaro with a small block Chevy 350 and a Hyperspark ignition system, Flowmaster mufflers, B&M shifter I am doing an honest review of my good and bad experiences so far with it.

In an attempt to keep this review video short I'm only covering the best and worst experiences I've had so far in the 1+ years I've owned and used the Holley Sniper EFI.

The big take aways from my review are to really figure out what it will cost and how much work will it take to install the Sniper on your car. Also if you have a reliable Carburetor on your car I recommend leaving it on unless your really itching for some new tech on your hot rod!

Fellow third gen owner here. I'm hoping to get a Sniper EFI system for my car. Glad to see you've had good results.

I put a Sniper on my 66 Mustang. I threw it in the trash four months later. It WILL leave you stranded at some point. Left me stranded twice. No carburetor has ever left me stranded in 30 years.

I have installed 3 black Holley sniper units. All 3 were replaced because of the same issue. They sprayed the black powder coating inside of the unit. the easiest way to see is to take off the left side cap that the return fuel line connects to. then pull out the diaphragm that's behind it. You will see it has black powder coating inside of it where it is exposed to gas and it will peel. 2 of the 3 just wouldn't run after the screen on the diaphragm clogged the 3rd saw fuel pressure issues and just went WOT on me with zero throttle control, that was scary. If you have a black unit check that out, Holley replaced all mine with a brand new one but they send out a new one with the same issue. I would recommend not getting powder coated units for replacement.

A little trick for running a return line on a tank that doesn't have a nipple for one just put a y splitter in the line before it hits the gas pump and connect it there. Since it's before the pump any excess fuel pressure will be dumped back into the tank and your pump will just pick up what it's already picking up. Also these may be expensive but since they improve your miles per gallon overtime they will end up paying for themselves when it comes to fuel savings so keep that in mind

Basically, if you're a car guy, get it. If you don't know what you're doing, don't get it.

With any EFI system you have to have the cleanest ground for the ECU. You also must have a good 12v source. Test the circuit you want to tie in to by loading it with a head light or something that puts a light load on the circuit. Most ECU issues are caused by poor power and ground than actual ECU failures.

Running this efi kit on my 302 windsor. Perfect for Colorado altitude fluctuation, especially when I go up to the mountains. From 5280ft in Denver to 14, 000ft at Mt Evans.

1k is not expensive... consider trying to buy just a case of ammo these days.

Thanks for that honest review. Trying to decide whether or not to get one so this is very helpful

1k is not too expensive when a good carb can run $500.

I had an O2 sensor go bad on my sniper unit. I blamed it on running a tank of 100 octane low-lead fuel. Don't run leaded fuel with oxygen sensors.

Mine died after the 3 yr mark...but I had sold the vehicle 3 months before it died to a co worker...he wasn't too happy...he decided to put a carburetor back on...even at close to 2k now for these setups, they are "cheap" efi systems.
