Lyle… My name is Thom Schuck and I live in Portland Oregon. I am pals with both Doug and Cindy. I talked with both of them today and they both told me I needed to buy one of your tools ASAP. Cindy sold me a chisel that she told me would work for the first 2/3rds of the bowl. I need to buy your bowl tool and a Doug Thompson handle from you. I looked at your site and sizing. I turn sitting in my wheelchair. One year back 3 days before Thanksgiving I was in my powerchair in a crosswalk and I was run over by a 15 year old young girl that was drunk. I got hurt really bad. I have my masters degree in Technical Woodcraft but had to give a lot up because of my injuries. So I became a woodturner. I do need a bit of help understanding things from time to time because my head took a hit. YES! I had my helmet on and that saved my life. I hold my doctorate from Christ Church College / Oxford so that has caused me a lot of confusion on how to deal with this mess. So we have that. If you would be so good as to tell me exactly what to buy I will order up my new tool pronto. I sure look forward to working with you on several tools that Cindy told me are must have. I purchased his bowl gouge, I would purchased it again. It gives great control of the cut, much better then my old gouge. The Thompson steel holds an edge better then any tool I own. It's not cheap but in my opinion was worth the price.

I already have your hollowing system and hollowing DVD, I also ordered the carbide cutter for it and the bowl turning DVD. Can't wait! I may have more questions after the UPS man gets here!

I won’t mention the other brands, but I appreciate some of the comments here. I’ve had issues with the ‘hump’ in the grind profile. I’ve heard Doug has gone to CPM 10V?

Looks like a winner to me! Doug's products are outstanding. I've been experimenting with grinding "blunter" gouges. I like them for "open road" turning!

I have 3 of your 5/8 inch bowl gouges. Love them and use them for many things besides bowls. This pm it will be roughing a Yew Root. No way would I try this with a roughing gouge.
