The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world's largest free trade agreement, officially came into force on Saturday. The agreement came into effect with a first batch of 10 countries, including six of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members -- Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, together with China, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. The agreement will enter into force on February 1 for South Korea, according to a statement by the ASEAN Secretariat on Saturday.

China needs to reduce its dependence on US market.
From a high of 25% in the 1980s, to now only 14% and declining in 2020.
With RCEP this will only accelerate. 👍

Do you know there's a country who has an "Act East Policy" to counter China in ASEAN but refused to join ASEAN's RCEP because it's scared to death about Made in China. Do you know which country is that?

There is no doubt that the consequence of India's rejection of RCEP is that India has been completely marginalized by the Asia Pacific regional integration economy. India's conservative economy will further affect foreign investment and India's own economic and trade development. The Indian government is still deceiving its own citizens, including the so-called RCEP's rejection of Indian service industry...However, this is not the case at all. All RCEP participating countries fully agree to open the service industry to India, but India is required to open the market to the service industry of all RCEP participating countries, which India refuses. India's unilateral and unreasonable demands are naturally not supported by RCEP participating countries.
India is well aware that its manufacturing industry is completely uncompetitive and has no confidence in its service industry. Once it is opened, the service market will also lose its competitiveness. India is still the case with RCEP, and India is even more afraid to participate in the more open cptpp. Therefore, it is inevitable that India is isolated from the Asia Pacific regional integration economic circle. At present, the only country in the Asia Pacific that is economically isolated like India is North Korea.

As someone that is quite sympathetic to China I agree with Chomsky in that these agreements are better described as 'corporate rights agreements'. I genuinely hope China isn't consumed by the capitalist profit drive like the neoliberals.
