I hate my name so much. I hate it. It’s a persian name and it sounds like the n-word. People look weird at me and look confused when my mom or dad shouts my name. I’m embarrassed and i started to hate my life. You think i might overreact, but you would do too if u had my name. I’m young and i will be 18 in a few years. I want to change my name so bad. :(

So go to SS office with all your paperwork ready, then follow up with DMV. Wife and I are in similar situation. We both kept our names at marriage. Now want to have same name with baby on the way.

The fact you lost your copy🥴 but yes I’ve heard that it’s such a difficult progress. That would be me too misspelling the name🤣

So actually which step was first, second, third? This process looks kind of confusing.

This sounds easy compared to AZ…. There is no dmv involved here you have to directly go to the superior court and request a HEARING and then provide the info as to WHY you want your name changed. Oh also a cute little $350 bill as well for court filing fees. Lol!

If you change your name does your social security number remain the same?

this may sound like a stupid question, but my friend and I have been arguing about this so here it is, did you have to hire an attorney and/or pay upwards of $10, 000+ for any reason for your name change?

Honey this is absolutely false. You do not need to petition the court and pay money and go before a judge to ask some stranger judge permission to change your name. Constitutional law allows you to change your name by simply filling out an Affidavit of legal name change or a declaration of legal name change sign it have it notarized and take it to Social Security and that's it. Then take your notarized declaration to DMV and then to your bank and your name is changed! For free! No permission from some judge you have to beg with your reasons for what you personally want to do is involved. I changed my name legally to my husband's name 25 years ago this way. We did not get a marriage license. I just took my Declaration of legal name change to Social Security and they changed my Social Security name to my declared name. Then I went to DMV and my bank and did the same thing. Just recently I helped an elderly man who wanted to change his name back to his birth name and we completed an Affidavit of legal name change which is a one-page paper and had it notarized and then took it to Social Security and the bank and to DMV. No problem. This is a common-law way to change your name and it is absolutely legal. Or should I say lawful.
