I dissolve when I see her singing. Got to love this lady when I lived in Hong Kong in the early 80's and I was devastated when I heard she'd died suddenly. She was, in my opinion, quite simply the best. She played the guitar, piano and flute, and her vibrato set her apart from the best of the rest.

She is an eternal legend in Western Pacific. Her Chinese songs like: 我只在乎你, 甜蜜蜜, 夜来香, 恰似你的温柔, 小城故事 and Cantonese songs like:漫步人生路, 忘记他 and Japanese songs like:空港, つぐない, 愛人, 時の流れに身をまかせ, 别れの予感 is also the timeless classics.

Teresa Teng (1953-1995), a famous Taiwanese pop music singer. She was an influential iconic musical figure in the Chinese-speaking region and other parts of Asia. Her singing career reached the peak in the Chinese-speaking region and Japan in the 1970s and 1980s. She was widely welcomed in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, the Korean Peninsula and other places. She initially faded out of the music circles in the 1990s. In 1995, she suffered an asthma attack and died suddenly in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She has a huge influence on Chinese society, and the world has a reputation as "Where there are Chinese, there is Teresa Teng's singing.

Teresa Teng has the same status in Asia as Bruce Lee. Basically, royalty. There was a saying, "Deng (Xiaoping) rules China by day, (Teresa) Teng rules China by night". [Both have the same surnames in Chinese, Romanised differently]

I met her a couple times back in 1993. I was so star struck by her presence. She was so modest, kind and easy going. She was consider one of the most phenomenal, talented singers in Taiwan since 1970s. She could speak more than four languages fluently as well as several Chinese dialects. Not only was she so famous in Mandarin speaking countries, she was also made it big in Japan where considered her a genius in singing ability !

I'm a 65 year old brit and I've loved Teresa since I was in my mid 20's. Her musical arrangements were second to none and she could bring an audience to tears at will. In my opinion she's the number 1 singer ever.

She's my favorite singer of all time. Not just her music, but she herself was loved throughout all of Asia. She sang in several languages, and was always the consummate professional, recording over 1, 500 singles in total. Wikipedia does a pretty good job of telling her story, but the best way to discover her is just to let one YouTube song lead to another. If you let yourself go down that path for an hour or so, you will fall in love with her, too. Guaranteed.

She won Asia's Golden Voice Award back in the 70s.
