It's not just a Mexican tradition. Older people in a lot of other cultures do that also.

If I see one of those coming, I just quickly turn my head so the kiss lands on my cheek.
Sometimes they look offended, but I tell them how nice it is to see them then ask them a question to get their mind of the fact that I turned my head (and might have offended them).
