At my house we call that. Seeing a chicken.
Example. Ashley was supposed to be cooking, but she saw a chicken and now is organizing her coffee cups.

I'm pretty good at resisting physically acting on impulses, but that doesn't keep the impulse itself from being really distracting. Like, say I'm laying in bed trying to sleep, and have the sudden urge to get up and do something. I can keep myself from getting up, but I'll still not be able to sleep because I want to go do the thing instead and my body is all keyed up with the annoyance.

Also marshmallows aren't that great and the test would be way more challenging with chocolate or something

Fun fact: the opening 30 seconds required a dozen takes and as many marshmallows.

I may or may not or may have definitely chased a balloon all the way across an amusement park.

As an adult.

I have inattentive type ADHD and the distraction happens inside my own mind. I can be distracted by outside stuff, but to be honest, I’m much more easily distracted by my own thoughts. If I’m not careful, I can follow a thought and suddenly I’m daydreaming, no matter what I’m doing. Even to the point of completely being unable to notice that something is happening around me. Kind of like I’m hyper focusing on my thoughts.

On a positive note, I like to think this helps me with my interest in writing, as I can just make up scenarios and stuff in my head. Making up whole stories and conversations out of nothing comes pretty easily to me.

If I saw a red balloon my first impulse is to be on alert for murderous sewer clowns.

Can you make a video for people leaving high school? Mainly how to plan ahead for the real world, and any tips for college, or to know if collage is for someone with ADHD

Wait so you’re telling me when “ neurotypical” people don’t instantly look at something that goes past their peripheral vision? This is an outrage.

One of the biggest providers of ADHD diagnosis and treatment in the UK suggested your channel when I asked for resources! Already subscribed of course but thought that was pretty cool!!

It seems like an adhd brain would've been amazing in a hunter gather structure. So many natural responses to stimuli, would've offered more safety. Too bad today's society punishes us

So you’re telling me I /shouldn’t/ yell “COWS” if I see them on the side of the road?? That’s Texas blasphemy.

I started meds a couple of weeks ago and my first thought was "There are still squirrels, but can just watch them run by, I don't have to chase them."

I so need to show this video to my family. So that they understand why I lose focus too easily by their distractions.

I can't imagine a scenario where I would want to ignore a balloon floating past my window.

This was a huge problem for me as a kid I got in so much trouble for doing things and I didn't even know why I kept doing that I thought I was just a bad kid.

I’m the first view this has never happened before and I’m literally on an adhd social media binge when I should be working, is this a sign?? Maybe I should finish the whole video, we’ll see what happens next.

Once a friend from therapy emailed me different "mental health" versions of Christmas carols. The one for ADHD was
"Silent Night, Holy Ni- Oh look a chicken! Can I have some chocolate? WHY IS FRANCE SO FAR AWAY?!"
