I have a 99 540i with the manual, spent alot of time & $ to get it to where it is but its relIable as hell, never left me stranded in my 8 years of ownership. Pulls hard w/213k on the clock. biggest concerns to watch for are the obvious by now engine issues but also check for the jackpoint rust. that is a huge weak point on the body.

I had 2 540s, an 03 manual m sport and an auto 01, I got the 03 540 back in 2014, I wish I kept it, only had 86k miles 1’ower clean title, I sold it a year later for 7k bought it for 5k, now I can’t even find a 03 540 m sport manual with less then 150k miles for 8-12k…

Although the exhaust has a nice note I don't think it suits the car, It's supposed to be understated. I have a 97 540 m sport that is stock other than face lift front end. My T5.1 transporter on the other hand, I've gone to town on upping the performance

automatic is not the real deal...only a 6 spd for max driving and an accurate feeling for the car.unless it has a 6 spd manual or its not a true i sport.ive got a true 2000 540i sport.not a m sport.the m sport came out in 2002 . the i sport in 2000 were all 6 spd manual cars...and they werent automatics.
