Always great to see/hear Steve playing and talking about his passion but since it's a "signature stick" video, we could expect he would review his own model in detail, why did he choose this particular length, diameter, barrel tip, shoulder, paint etc....

I put the heavier stick in my left hand too!

His signature stick is probably the best one I've ever used. :)

Prior to Vic Firth Steve Gadd stick, Yamaha was making (or at least putting their name on) the “Yamaha Special Hickory - Steve Gadd Model. All black stick. Had a very similar shape, but the tip was ever so slightly different as was the black lacquer they used. It was almost more of multi coat stain. The lettering was silver. And these Yamaha sticks were more consistent and generally lighter than the Vic Firth Gadd sticks. The Vic’s have been around since 1984. I still have several pairs of the Yamaha sticks in their plastic sleeves new. I will always use these sticks.

i'm an SD4 combo maple sticks user and i needed the same sticks but with a tad more punch. Steve's sticks are exactly what i needed. same thing than SD4 barely thicker and barely longer (like a hair difference really) with same tip. but Hickory gives me that punch i was searching for more projection when i wanna play something that needs more like Rock/Metal stuff. for the all the rest i stay loyal to SD4. those are made for me.

Love the way they feel and sound. They smell funny though.

I played Pro Marks for many years when a salesman in a music shop reccommended me Vic Firth sticks. I bought one pair and he gave me a second pair for free. Both pairs broke within 2 hrs while practicing with my band. I'm not a heavy basher or something. I went back to Pro Mark. Never had a problem with them.

That's funny....as a kid, I remember watching my dad rolling sticks in drum stores way back in the day. He would get 10 or 15 "Pairs" and then work on mixing and matching them up. The SSG wood tip is a Great stick.

But my first pair in 2014, it's 2024 and I just bought a second pair because I lost one stick while moving. Hope they're still as durable as the first ones were!

I've played EVERY stick imaginable by every manufacturer. If you're breaking sticks after 2 hours of rehearsal, you either are playing too hard (which will also affect your tone), have poor technique, playing a stick that doesn't suit your needs or situation (7A when you need a 5B) or have never been taught professional percussion pedagogy by a qualified instructor.

It was good, but it's gotta have more cowbell.

Yep. I have been using Vic Firth ROCK wood tips since the eighties. No better sticks out there. They rarely break and they are weighted perfectly for me. I have tried other brands and to put it simple. THEY JUST SUCK!!!
