John Deacon rarely gave interviews even before he retired from music and retreated from the public eye.
Now, in this rare interview which was filmed on the set for the music video for These Are the Days of Our Lives, Deacon himself gave an insight into the ways in which the four personalities worked together.

“Often it is singers and guitarists who are more outspoken,” Deacon said

“But behind-the-scenes I can be as noisy as anyone else,” he added. “I think we’ve all had our fair share of craziness over the years.”

Speaking out about his experience with Queen, he continued: “I can’t say it’s been easy.

“It’s been difficult at times; we’ve had good times and bad times where we’ve fallen out and then we’ve made up.”

He also said: “I never thought I would still be playing in a band or recording at this age.

“When you join, you think five years, perhaps 10 years at the most, when you first start playing music.”

Explaining what had changed about the band’s dynamic over the years, he said: “I think we’re all throwing in different ideas. There’s a lot more teamwork.

“But people still get very precious about their songs that they started off with,” he laughed.

The interview took place just months before Mercury died of complications due to AIDS.

Following Mercury’s death, Deacon withdrew, only performing with Queen three more times.

In 1997, he officially retired, leaving May and Taylor to continue with the band and their legacy alone.

Missing Deaky, it's quite easy to click and hear and see, yet another time, John Deacon taking me back in time. Emotionally satisfying revisit. Thanks.

I understand why he doesn't join Brian and Roger when they go on your with Adam. I get it..It would be.awesome though if he were to join them live in some capacity. Preferably full time at bass for atleast one your. If not it would be wonderful if he atleast joined them for individual specialty performances. Before someone says it yes we all know Adam is not Freddie. No one can ever replace Freddie. However Adam has done a wonderful job as Freddie's successor. For fans lilke me who never had the opportunity to see the band with Freddie I feel that the tours with Adam that include a respectable incorporation of Freddie into the show not a ghastly Hologram are as close as we'll get to seeing the real thing. I hope John does join Brian Roger and Adam some day.

his musical contribution, his human contribution + Freddie Mercury's musical, human contribution to Queen made up half the group. How can Brian May and Roger Taylor even begin to think they can even come close to Queen level with bought musicans and a bought voice?

Not really rare. These bits have been in various Queen documentaries for decades now. Most of it was seen in the 1995 Champions Of The World documentary
