This video is a step by step guide on how to setup a Ubiquity Unifi USG (Unifi Security Gateway) to be used as a VPN server. Everything from radius authentication to L2TP connections to the VPN is covered. Also Windows 10 RS3 have a problem that does not let the vpn client connect although the settings are correct.

WIndows 10 RS3 L2TP fix:

Open Command Prompt as admin and paste the following:

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent /v AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule /t REG_DWORD /d 0x2 /f

This seems to be broken again after a recent Windows 10 update. I have multiple users with multiple USG/Edgerouter sites no longer working. All Windows 10 clients

Thank you! Great Tutorial.
A strange thing happened to me: on one client the VPN connection works only over LAN but not over WLAN, on another only over WLAN and not over LAN. What could be the reason for this?

I've got an odd problem, i can ping network devices on the vpn but i cant see them populate in the network window of windows or osx. Correct me if i'm wrong, but that's the whole point to a vpn is the ability to remote connect to devices like say, I need to print remotely from home on the work production printer. I can ping it, but i cant set it up as a printer...that make sense? Any ideas? I thought maybe it was a DNS issue but i setup my system just like you and all the tutorials i've watched and read.

Can I ask why you have to change your network ip address to something non-publically routable? Cant you just change it to "anything" different than what you have at work?

Hello, how can I then access an IP in the network when I am connected via VPN? Which firewall settings do I have to make here?

Can't save my new network. Error at the bottom states "You cannot choose the "Default" RADIUS profile if the RADIUS server is disabled." However I do have it enabled. Any ideas?

My Unifi USG is connected through Linksys wifi router. I using VM to connect to this USG, i made the radius profile in Unifi controller. I gave the public IP of the linksys network in VPN to get connected but it didn't work. I am doing something wrong, I don't know. I am confused now what public IP i should give? Because my USG is connected to linksys.

I'm helping a friend get this working. I have some questions.
I enabled the Radius server, set up a user with the password and shared key, all seems good there.
I set up a separate network for his VPN 192.168.2.1/24
His regular LAN is 192.168.1.1/24
But, when I connect to the VPN, I'm unable to reach anything within his home LAN network. Any ideas? Is it like your issue you were having with you work network? Becuase at my home my LAN is also 192.168.1.1/24.
Any ideas?
