If you are on Windows 10 and are trying to connect to an L2TP server behind a NAT, then you will find that it will not work due to how Microsoft has set up their IP stack. If you are on a Mac then it will work ok, but not on any version of Windows and a change is needed in the registry according to the below link:

I rarely comment on Youtube Videos, but this four-year-old Video solved a problem I spent days on in 3 minutes. lol. Even with the L2TP ports open on my router, I couldn't connect to my VPN and this registry setting solved it immediately. Thanks for posting!

i am facing this error when i am connecting VPN. The remote connection was not made because the attempted vpn tunnels failed.
the vpn server might be unreachable. if this connection is attempting to use an L2TP/IPsec tunnel, the security parameters required for IPsec negotiation might not be configured properly

Thank you my friend. That worked for me. Why on earth do MS do this? Why not at least a tick box (are you NAT'ed)?

Is value 2 universal? I mean will it work when only my server is behind the NAT and client isn't?

Didn't work for me (I think it's because my router is no letting me open 1723 port for my VPN or else, it would've worked, I think) but thanks for the video anyways. I appreciate the effort.
