ELDEN RING Shadow of the Erdtree takes players beyond the Lands Between to explore the Land of Shadow, a completely new world from ELDEN RING. Players can seamlessly travel back and forth between its vast maps interspersed with diverse situations and meticulous dungeons where menacing enemies roam. A Further-deepened RPG

Shadow of the Erdtree adds new weapons, equipment, weapon skills and magic not found in the base game ELDEN RING, along with new enemies, boss encounters and plotlines to further increase players' RPG freedom. in this video Dreamcastguy talks about the reviews for Shadow of the Erdtree claiming the game runs poorly, has optimization problems and is TOO HARD. Even the streamer Asmongold is saying he has quit the game due to the difficulty and boss design.

Take on these threats with the new powers you can acquire.

"I dont want to spoil a boss by putting a picture up" while showing footage of the boss fight as he talks.

For the most part I enjoy the dlc, but I don’t like the Scadutree system. It has basically turned the game into an Easter egg hunt to get more powerful if you run into a tough boss. Also some of the bosses seem cheaply made compared to other souls like games. It’s a matter of “oh, here’s a new boss that is kicking my ass. I guess I should go wander around aimlessly for a few hours and see if I can find more Scadutree as well as explore a new build (rinse and repeat until something works)” - that is the whole dlc summed up

This video was perfect. You addressed everything without being biased. Honestly, I’m speechless!

I am at the very end of this DLC.
So I am playing FS game since DS1 and I have played all at launch including DLCs.
Now, this DLC is by far the hardest content FS has ever released even trivialising Sekiro's boss rush by a vast margin, but not for the good reasons.

Sekiro is, in my opinion, the best and the hardest FS game. It is also, in my opinion, the most fair game ever made by FS. This is because Sekiro will always put you in a decent enough footing to beat the boss.
SotE does not. This is mostly due to the blessing system. I firmly believe this system should not exist and is a dangerous precedent for the future of the franchise.
This system is FS telling you "There is no longer a myriad of ways to play this game, some of them are no longer aligned with our philosophy and you will either comply or we will make your experience miserable."

I wanted to first do the main story of this DLC, then the side content. As it turns out, this is not a valid way to play the game in FS's eyes. Doing this caused me to reach the final boss and have him one shot me and me doing almost no damage to him. Why? Because I did not even have 10 blessings.
What makes DS3 the best RPG (not counting Sekiro which is not an RPG) FS has ever released is that you can approach it in any direction you want. Sure, some areas will be tough, but will not be nearly as insane as what SotE offers. Here you have to comply to FS's design. You must follow the given path. If you don't, they will make you regret it.
For one, I did not find most bosses to be badly designed. I found the blessing system to be badly designed.
The bosses that are badly designed are those where the camera goes play Dark Souls 3 whilst you're still on Elden Ring.

This DLC also offers poor performance, that over 2 years after the release of the game. I did not have a good time playing this DLC as I felt that FS was telling me how to play the game and invalidated my approach. I also found the lore to be mediocre (the last boss is a considerable let-down lorewise in my opinion) and to severely cripple the excellent lore of Elden Ring.

Overall, I did give this DLC a bad review, but not because of the difficulty, but because of the blessing system and the lore.

What a ride! Everyone was saying elden ring is the easiest of the souls series next to demon's souls, now to its the hardest game in the franchise because of the DLC????

People got used to "jump attack" or circle around bosses, now that bosses have alot of moves, they dont know what to do...
As a person who played all nioh series all the way to highest dificulty and ninja gaiden series, the dlc bosses in ER have very weird attack paterns and very wierd hit boxes, especialy the hitboxes.
1)people have to learn how to properly play the game.
2)FS have to fix the wierd hit boxes/performance issues.

I think it's mostly rust for me
haven't played in like 2 years
I'm level 260 & getting close to one shot
it's definitely brutal

I don’t think the DLC should be rebalanced, per se. I think my issue is that I have a huge health bar, and because the flask doesn’t scale even when maxed, I have to chug two charges to heal from one hit. If they made max flask heal a base amount or 80%, which ever is greater, that would keep me from getting pseudo stun locked trying to heal from fast, hard hitting enemies.

To be fair, don’t hear them complaining about the quality or anything sense I think it’s much damage is what people are complaining about by the sound of it

Same old story. Everyone always say From Soft games are too hard when they first drop. Every single time. 😂

Almost every boss attacks you instantly the second you walk through the fog gate. You get punished for trying to summon. You can't even get started before you get two shot. And yes I have level 10 tree fragments.

I also enjoy getting one shot by a nuke in phase 2 and having to refight phase 1 for hours on end just to be one shot by a different nuke in phase 2 just to have to fight phase 1 for hours on end. That feeling of making zero progress is so fun. Also love how the difficulty is tied to scad blessing so if I miss some then I have to spend hours exploring. I love spending hours preparing to spend hours practicing just to be one shot anyway.

Loved vanilla elden ring perfect challenge but honestly I’m not really enjoying the dlc bosses so far it feels like I can never do anything there’s no break to their attacks like bayle is genuinely just disgusting to fight

Sekiro is still the ultimate challenge. No summoning and no over leveling.

I think people fail to realize that you NEED Scadutree Fragments to boost your damage and defense. Also, I feel like people who are complaining about this DLC being "too hard" are no-summons elitist or people (like Asmongold) who refuse to adapt and change their play style. FromSoft gives you so many tools to succeed for the DLC (multiplayer, summons, etc.), but stubborn old farts refuse to utilize them since it will hurt their pride and ego.

While I disagree with the negativity I do sympathise with these people as I think the problem with the dlc is the scatter tree fragments. Because they make such a huge difference to the game as they stack. So the problem is that you can’t just ‘grind’ and you have to get them all to even stand a chance against the later bosses. So it is a shame that you can’t rush to bosses

One thing I’m noticing about the DLC is there are quite a few times where I’m running around and I’ll notice chunks of my health will be gone and I’m thinking, “what hit me?”
