"Playing the other humans." Evidence that Magnus is a robot.

"How do you get good at chess? Strategies? Tactics? Checkmates?"
"Have fun."
"Oh..."

He seems like a nice young man, I wish him well. If he works hard he might even up playing at a national level.

Searched “basic mating techniques” after watching this video, was not what I was looking

To get better, abuse green pills and stare at the ceiling.

These rules seem universal to anything you decide to dedicate time into getting better. Learn from old masters, playing, having fun, watching content and especially learning how to mate are all very important as a freelance artist.

i wish magnus would just speak with his native language and then put subtitle on the video.

i just want to know what magnus has fully in mind. language barrier has limited him to say what he wants to say

Learning to do the mate with a single rook definitely improved my confidence during games as now I am happy to trade pieces if I can gain that advantage.

Bobby Fischer has rightly said one of his last interviews : fact that it became more and more analysed, computerised, people preparing all kinds of stuff beforehand....creativity, spontaneity got lost more and more, it's too much about winning instead of creating.

Kasparov wrote a little book that was genuinely helpful to beginners because it didn't assume prior knowledge on their part and explained the basics.i think it was included with a home chess computer that was in the shops some years back. Carlsen just gives you vague generalities. He might as well have just said "learn how to play chess" for all the help it was. Great practitioners aren't always very good at explaining things, especially to beginners.

Thanks for this. Carlsen is on such a high level it must be tough for him to break the game down to the normals. I appreciate him now more than ever!

My two cents: Different people see the same board positions differently which allows for creativity. Visualization and thinking in reverse help a lot. Also, psychology of fear and greed is crucial too as there are both traps and treasures on the board. With mental acuity one can reap benefits without making blunders.

I love how all his beginner tips for chess boil down to "learn chess"

Can't blame him, we can't all be born legitimate geniuses within the game.

"Any playing training is good, longe games, blitz games, vs computers (...)"

Finally an honest answer, thank you, Magnus.
