Well put guide Clay and a good message for newer boaters. Some years back we made a run from Key West to the Dry Tortugas… maybe 75 miles when all said and done in a 26 ft. bay boat with a 250 Yamaha. Great weather out and super day. A line squall hit us at dusk about 25 miles out of Key West …. wind and seas almost swamped us. Lesson learned. You are spot on as usual!

I spray my brakes, axles and lights with salt wash using a pump up sprayer in the morning after I launch the boat. That way it’s not just cooking in salt water all day while I’m gone.

Hey Clay, throwing a suggestion out there - someone like me who is considering getting into boating would appreciate if you walk us through your routine of cleaning your boats. Do you do right after you filet the fish? How long does it take you? Any best practices you can share? It may be worth doing a entire video about it, which I am sure you can get Un Duz It to sponsor it as well. Just a thought. If you already have a video like this, then disregard. Loved the info. I can use it if I shop for a new boat cause I am in the market for one but in the area where I live a center Console makes a whole much difference more than a bay boat anyway thanks a lot for sharing your experiance with us🌹

I just traded my bay boat for a center console primarily because I bait fish for striper so I didn’t need the casting space, wanted to keep my rug rats in the boat and enjoy the extra space!

23 foot bay boat (Robalo Cayman) vs. 23 foot center console (Robalo R230). 12in draft vs 19in draft, 15 degree deadrise vs 20 degree deadrise. Does it really make a difference on how skinny I can get to chase bait, or would it be about the same if boat boats have trolling motor mounted? Basically, I want to know how often you've been out chasing bait or going to the sandbar and know you wouldn't be able to make if your draft was more than 14 inches? I know it's a hard question to answer, just want to know what you think from your experience on the water.
