I'm the "employee" that hates doing interiors, unless they are lightly to moderately soiled. I mostly like to polish up exteriors.

Before COVID-19 I gave my employees company cars. I was super flexible with their schedule. Then everything closed and went away.
That's life

Wow Yvan this video is spot on. I’m currently a retail manager and this week I left work late again and told myself no more. I set a timetable of two months before retiring from retail and starting my own detailing business. I have learned a lot from retail and the first rule is customer service is what every business is really selling. As far as employees go paying your employees well is the best motivator. Having a SOP is essential but I have always allowed my employees to think outside the box and sometimes they find better solutions than the SOP.
A long time ago I was working as a teenager in the carpet warehouse my parents owned. I rolled up the dock door so the driver could open his trailer doors. The driver came to me and said your dad was the best boss he ever had. I asked him why and he said he was the only boss he ever had who did not treat him like he was the boss. The lesson I finally learned was we are all the same and we all have the same needs. Treat your associates with care and they will go above and beyond to help you.
Finally if an employee need help work with him and do not belittle the employee. We all learn differently and patience and kindness goes a long towards developing employees into being future leaders.
Thank you for the video and I have a lot of work to do.

One thing I notice alot of issues with is if a specific employee is a good hard worker but is less satisfactory (for example) at doing exterior washes as opposed to letting them go try them at interior cleanings or front of house job. Some people excell at some things and dread doing others and great employees can be hard to come by and worth the effort to find what makes them happy. A good hard working employee that is happy and feels supported as well as appreciated will always be better than at least 2 (if not more) that are only in it for a job

Employee manual will save your butt when/if the relationship goes south because it keeps them from coming back on you for claims of unpaid wages, hours, benefits, etc.
Great advice as always Yvan!

Great points, my friend. From 30 years running a body shop, you're spot on. In our new detail shop, if/when we decide to hire an employee, we'll follow those ideas. Sitting in on your classes at MTE, we very educational. We're implementing a lot of your ideas in setting up our new shop. And yes, the wife is actively setting up our employee hand book and our SOP manuals. Hope to see you soon!

Hi- I commented a while ago about the possibility of you making a 'ceramic coating maintenance 101' video where you'd go through steps needed and typical products required to keep your coating in tip top condition, e.g. what to do on your regular wash and then what to do more intermittently, at a longer intervals, for a more deep clean if things are starting to get clogged/seem to appear to be degrading etc.
Have you had any further thoughts about doing that? I'm keen to learn more about it from yourself 👍

This really helps to put things in a different perspective. I really enjoyed it, and it makes so much sense. Eventually with a shop I want to do exactly this. You find good help, you treat and compensate them well and you support them. Honestly you'll have a lifelong career and a good friend. And like you said give them something to strive towards and help them grow. Being able to hold them accountable and help turn your passion into theirs. This was an excellent video, thank you Mr. Lacroix
Also for anyone watching check out DIY detail with Yvan and Nick from Hawk Pro! Its phenomenal and I can't wait to get some of the products in
