The song perfectly captures that feeling.

Hard to believe 1984 was forty years ago. This song reminds me of my family. A simpler time in the 90s.

That song makes me feel an Overwhelming feeling of “you don’t know how good times are, until they go away”. 😞

I'm 51. I grew up listening to Smashing Pumpkins. I never cared for their music until the last few months. Now I can't get enough of it. Weird how tastes change and you find appreciation in different music/artists. I'm sorry I missed out on you guys for decades.
Respectfully, your newest older fan.

I love Billy Corgan. It seems in almost every interview I have ever seen or listened to with him he is totally willing to explain his feelings and reasonings behind every aspect of any song, and that's really fascinating to me. This adds a whole other dimension to listening to their songs to know what behind them.

You always hope for a backstory like this for those songs that moves you the most. I was in my early teens when this came out and to this day it's exact feeling I get when I hear it. Hard not to get super sentimental and a bit teary eyed

This song has always been for driving in the rain. Glad to know it was borne that way.

I was 13 in 1979. It was a great year in music. All genres still on a single station (iykyk). Then, MTV came around and chamged music in America forever. I cherish those 70s kid memories.

One of my favorite songs, now I have to go listen to it. I was 13 in 1979, thanks for sharing this.

He brilliantly conveyed that emotion through the song and brought us all along with him.

it was always very special. i would get sick of the radio songs from them getting overplayed really quickly, but 1979 would just never get old no matter what

1979 is the year I was born. So also in his mind he was thinking 'I'll title the song after the year Michael was born." Thanks Billy that's really sweet of you.

1979 is definitely a classic. It really does have a vibe/sound to it that’s so great, but hard to explain

As a former delivery driver and Pisces, Billy Corgan we are two of a similar soul! Love these correlations. 😌💕
