The Big Picture : Evolving Security Situation in Afghanistan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani discussed the evolving security situation in the region and other areas of mutual and bilateral interest on Monday. During a phone call, the two also exchange Eid-ul-Adha greetings. President Ghani thanked Prime Minister Modi for timely supply of food and medical assistance to meet Afghan requirements. PM Modi reiterated India's commitment to the people of Afghanistan in their quest for a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Afghanistan. The phone call happened as reports said Afghan forces retook a prison in the country's east, a day after the Islamic State terrorist group attacked the facility in which at least 29 people were killed. Let me add a line to what I spoke in the discussion, for viewers. We have to be watchful of growing ISKP, because it has an agenda to increase influence in India. Taliban doesn't seem to harbour anti-India agenda as of now. . Most attacks on minorities including Hindus & Sikhs in recent past have been by ISKP. AQIS also has anti-India agenda. Besides engaging all stakeholders including Taliban, as mentioned in the show, a watch on anti India nexus of terror groups in Afghanistan is in Indian national interest.

American has decided to withdraw unequivocally?
• Suspense around the Afghan government and the Taliban stuck at prisoner releases.
• Violence done by ISIS and the Taliban, Power is shown by the Taliban so they can have an upper hand in the peace process
• Taliban has the wind behind them since afghan gov cannot survive without the American.
• Sharia Law imposed by the Taliban is going to be an issue.
Role of ISIS in Afghan
• They have shifted their focus from West Asia to afghan
• Interlinkage between terror groups -Haqqani, LeT, Taliban
• ISIS doesn't have an influence over the common people. Still, they can be a challenge due to Turkey, Syria, Iraq.
Iran - Pakistan- China axis developing in Afghanistan.
• China factor which is playing a major role in the region with its CPEC and influencing the peace process restricting India's role.
• Iran - Pakistan- China axis developing in Afghanistan.
• Iran supported the Taliban to counter the USA
• Iran is economically weak and needs china's support to survive.
• Pakistan influence increasing in afghan since they have played a role in the rise of the Taliban.
• Pakistan- Afghanistan concern over the Durand line dividing Pashtuns is a problem
Way forward
• Indians should not ignore the Taliban and hold talks with it. We cannot put all our eggs in the Afghan government basket.
• We have to work with the USA to give us concessions on Iran.
• Government come and go, countries remain and India does not interfere in the internal matter of a foreign state.

I agree with the general we can't underestimate the threat of ISIS and it's regional branch of Islamist State Khorasan Province.
We should look in factors that Isis and alquada are doing small attacks in Kashmir.
To secure the Kashmir from terrorism we must take into consideration if Iran slips away completely we should have direct access to Afghanistan to secure our strategic and economic interests, so we should take back PoK by military means in next year or so.
