The sad part is that tech companies and engineers that produce software for ATMs, among other things, seem to always go with low budget easy to understand software. They seem to forget that there is always someone out there that will figure it out. I understand that the reasoning behind that is to make it easy to service but in turn things like this happen, why is it that ATMs have terrible cameras, why is it that anyone can walk up to an ATM and attach a skimmer on it, it all boils down to dollars and cents the banks don't care because they are insured, and it will always be their word against yours if you as a customer gets scammed, but if someone out thinks the bank all hell breaks loose. I think banks should more accountable and invest in their security and ours.

Excellent video. I wish you had gone into what happened to Jack, so called drug OD July 2013. That is the craziest part of the story. Also he bought ATM's and had them in his apartment and reverse engineered the propriety software, he also had a way to go between the ethernet wall jack and ATM, MITM, maybe a rubber ducky or something, he died before the white papers could be published.

The versions of XP that were running on ATMs were actually supported up until early 2019, called Win XP Embedded. Only the consumer versions (Home and Pro), were dropped in 2014.

As far as I know the hacker group behind the attack is known as Bandidos Revolution Team, they were caught a few years ago when the police got an anonymous tip... They had all kind of sport cars, from lambos to McLarens, even sport motorcycles, they made about 5 Millions Dollars every month until they got caught..

I remember seeing one in maybe like 2016... I can't remember the name of it, but it had a image of like a cook/ chef on the UI of the malware. It was one that you had to plug into the usb port on the ATM computer...

I noticed a local ATM had failed to boot, displaying an error window that looked like Windows NT. The machine is any a few years old, so why such an ancient, long deprecated OS?
