The first Patches wasn't from Dark Souls, Demon's Souls.. or even Armored Core 4A..

About 3 days after uploading my video, I realized my omission/mistake. Well made video man!! Keep it up

"I had friends, but everyone died", "Beware the one guarding the door".

Those lines are really clever though. The player gives him money to becoming his "friend", the same thing probably happened to all those people in the locked room, hence all of his friends being dead. Also "Patches" has the key, so he is technically the one guarding the door.

You can't say the devs didn't warn us. I do think the fan-translation does get the point across.

Good ole' trusty Patches. Little known fact, but his presence was in King's Field as well; he was the lead game designer. He transcended time and fiction to place all of the traps in those games just so he could loot everyone who fell for them.

I think it's suspicious that Patch in armored core master of arena has an eagle emblem and changes moods in combat, and patches in dark souls has an eagle shield and turns into an apologetic beggar as soon as you mean to fight him.

Patches does kick you off a ledge in elden ring its completely optional for his quest. I think most people miss it

Neat how Patches' first battle mirrors his last one, engaging in a group fight on a vast sea of sand, and running off before it's over.

I can never truly hate the chap. Even if I'm now covered in burns and bomb ashes thanks to him.

Just to point out, the emblem for Patch in AC:MOA is a spread eagle, just like the one that is normally displayed on his tower shield in Dark Souls

Yes, in the Japanese version his name is "Patch" and he often says no-count, as in the English word.

Also interesting that the man in the first game was looking for a spear (although he died trying) and later Patch(es) is using a spear

Patches has a trap-chest for you in Elden Ring, similar to Shadow Tower, it doesn't explode but teleports you to a dangerous area

Shadow Tower is more Pate/Creighton in my opinion. Explosive chest being the main link.

Patches kicks you in Elden Ring, too. There is a spot on Mt. Gelmir where, at a certain point in Patches' quest, you will find rainbow stones leading you to a ledge. When you look over the edge he kicks you down and tells you to stay away from Volcano Manor.

Patches always seemed like your only real friend. It’s only through him that you get access to some of the best weapons and armor sets in the souls games. He’s just got a strange way of showing affection. He gives you access to unreachable areas and items that can get you through the rough spots.

He's not "Patches" per se, but i think the first appearance of the trope might happen in Dragon Quest IV. There's a quest where the player character is competing with NPCs to recover an item, and at one point an NPC tells you to look at some treasure below the ledge you are on, and then he kicks you down. Blew my mind when it happened! I know Miyazaki is a Dragon Quest fan, so maybe that's why he has been so adament on keeping the trend alive, even if he didn't necessarily introduce it to the from repertoire

So Pate and the exploding chests of DS2 were a Shadow Tower reference

One of the central themes of the Shadow Tower games is conflict. In the first Shadow Tower, your character is a mercenary. He returns home after his battles only to find his hometown desolate and sunken into the Shadow Tower. Inside, he faces monsters, but among them are soldiers and kings of long-lost conquests to claim the tower and its crown.

In Shadow Tower Abyss, it retains this theme in the modern era. Your character is once again a mercenary, and is hired for a job. But it's a trick and he was only meant to be sacrificed and left for dead. The villagers have performed this rite many times, seemingly for centuries. Relics of battles from every era can be found littered throughout the tower's layers.

Our "Patches" in Abyss seems to be a war veteran, a man sacrificed to the Shadow Tower before your character. His mind never truly left the battlefield, and he has turned on friend and foe alike, using his cunning and vicious traps to survive. He's lived that long in the tower for a reason. He's clever enough to get the upper hand on Rurufon. He's the perfect kind of person to succumb to the spear's allure. He doesn't want to escape like the protagonist does. He is far more at home in the endless battle of the Shadow Tower than he is in a civilian life.

It´s worth mentioning that his kick in DS 3 Ringed City actually helps you if you followed his questline. Giving you a short cut to where you need to go.

As for Elden Ring, you can find him multiple times through out the game.
