I still hear my grandmother singing this song! I'm only 30... Anyone that's listening to this song I wish you peace and ever lasting love!

There’s a reason this song won a Grammy in 1971. One of the greatest tunes in American history.

If this song doesn't touch your soul, you don't have one.

I'm 58 years old and still listening to the song. The song tells a story about strength, perseverance and to never give up

Basically the story of my Dad at 13 when his father died and he had to work the farm and take care of the crops. He grew up to be the best man I have ever known. He still made it to church on Sunday. Love and miss him so much ❤

Was in the car with my dad on a spring break road trip to Texas from Indiana. We were driving through the countryside of Arkansas at night looking for a motel (we travel cheap, usually a Motel 6) and this song played and it just felt great, seeing the night sky and on a road trip. Really helps me appreciate my dad more. I’ll remember it forever.

My husband led this same life and not only survived it but went on to college and overcome it. I’m so proud of him!

This song was playing on the radio in 1969, as I was going through basic training with the U.S.Army, It gave me the strength and ability to follow in my Father and Mother, who both served during WW 2, bless all who contributed to its origin, I will never forget it's contribution to my success.

This song goes out to my grandpa for taking care of me and teaching me the value of life through hard work.

This one reminds me of my father. Had a 10th grade education and worked hard manual labor jobs before going to Vietnam and getting agent orange. He wanted better for all four of us kids. Sent us all to college. Dad passed away at 59 from cancer. I'm a kindergarten teacher now, getting ready to retire at the age of 61. Wouldn't be here without my dad and his hard work. Love and miss you pop.

Man, this gave me chills. Made the hair on my arms and neck stand up. Those old songs have power. The sad thing is that music like this is not being made anymore. They remaster it and they mix it and they digitally tune it to the point to where it’s artificially perfect. You need a certain rawness in music to properly convey the intensity that you find in this song right here.

Y Dad was the tenor backing him up. He sang with the Telenaires for years. Great memories 🙂 My Dad passed away last year. I miss him!! But he left his recordings. I listen to them and smile. Grew up with all of them. Memories ❤️

I'm from a white family that grew citrus, this song reminds me of stuff that happened in my child hood too. This song transcends race.

My dad played this for me 4 days before he died of cancer .. this song has been a gift and a curse .. I have 5 sisters and I’m the oldest .. my dad knew this song would always remind me of my duty to them and my mom .. I love you dad and I’m still listening ...

This was my daughter's favorite song growing up. At 28 yrs old she passed away from cancer leaving two small children behind. We played her this song at her funeral.
