Forgot the most important letter- "I", which does not stand for "I do it all" but for "INCLUDE THE KIDS"!

Include the kids. Our house, our responsibility.

Remember when you’re overwhelmed: Make the children clean up their messes before bedtime.

Thank you so much for this! I'm a strong believer in, "if you're old enough to make the mess you're old enough to clean it" so ill be teaching my kids this FLAT method

“It eliminates that feeling of paralysis” that’s exactly what happens to me. Overwhelm=paralysis

As a kid, I wish I would have learned this, cleaning is a struggle when it should be a habit.

"focus on flat surfaces like tables, countertops, the floor..." isn't that like everything in the home? 😅

Your messy house is my house after cleaning for twelve hours straight.

Through sheer frustration, exhaustion and depression I have taught my kid to clean up since the age of 3. Her first task at age 3 was to put her toys away. Age 4, I added her putting her dishes in the sink and cleaning her table. Age 5 I added sweeping under her table and helping me organize and fold/put away her clothes. My mom thinks I am horrible for that but I can't do it by myself, she had help, I am mom and dad and everything else. By the grace of God I am not crazy. The older she gets the more she will do. She is 6 now and she tidys up the entire living room by herself, which consist of all the little steps she has been doing since she was 3. I have seen houses where moms feel guilty about making the kids clean, it shall not be my house, oh no no.

I would include the kids in the pick up time. We always set a 5 minute timer when the kids were little, before bathtime, to pick up toys. This got any excess energy out and cleaned up the toys.

I love this!! Also, another tip: if you’re feeling overwhelmed with dishes.. organize them first!!

Spoons, forks, etc. one pile

Cups one area

Plates one pile

Bowls one pile, etc.

Helps me a ton!! And you can focus on one area at a time. I like to stick to one and if I’m not feeling it afterwards I don’t beat myself up about it because at least I accomplished one thing. ❤️☺️

"After using it put it back from where it belongs" - is what our mom used to say when we were younger 🤧
