DEBBY EMERGENCY EVACUATION: Downpours cause overnight emergency crews to respond to flooding in S.C.

In Response to the devastating flooding in Berkeley County early Friday morning, Berkeley County has transitioned back to OPCON 1 status with full activation of the Emergency Operations Center due to Debby's impact.

County offices will be closed Friday, including the courthouse, Berkeley Animal Center, Cypress Gardens, library branches, the Berkeley County Landfill, and convenience centers. In addition the Berkeley County School District has reported that their schools and offices will transition to virtual operations for Friday.

Many areas across the county are experiencing severe flooding and several roadways are closed. Rescue operations have been ongoing throughout the early morning hours on Friday and an emergency shelter has opened at Berkeley Middle School.

We received a weather alert at 05:29. That was very helpful, because we immediately made the decision to stay home.The amout of water that CB received last night it was insane.
