Today I'm taking you behind the scenes of what we got at Aldi and Target for a typical weekly grocery haul for our family of 5 (plus 3 little girls 3 days a week). With the food shortage predictions, we are gearing up to stockpile a lot of food as well by cutting our grocery budget by eating less organic for a while so we save money in our budget to add more items to stockpile. Enjoy!

I would love a video on stockpiling! It is something I am trying to learn currently.

Yes I am big on stockpiling in general. I think it's important to have at least 2 or more weeks worth of food in the house. It's been helpful when life happens, especially now.

I’ve always kept extra food on hand, but definitely more pantry items the past 2 years! I shop my pantry, fridge and freezer and make my grocery list off replenishing what we’ve used in the past week. So for example, I have space for 24 cans of tomato paste, if we used 2 during the week, I order 2 to replenish the 2 we used. I put the new ones at the end of the “line”. Before the pandemic I didn’t keep as much on hand, but anymore I’ve increased our shelf limit! And more so the past few months as if I didn’t have it we would have to go without as it’s unavailable for weeks at a time. There’s a few items I will add to my cart even if we don’t need it that week just because it’s an item that’s not on shelves 90% of them time! Sorry for the long rambling response!!

I've been feeling guilty that I have been laying off the organic in exchange for trying to stock up. I needed to see this video to remind me that it's okay and seasons change! Have you heard of Misfit Market? They rescue "ugly" organic produce that can't be sold at stores . They've just expanded to pantry items as well. I've seen some great deals on some things recently!

Hi there! I used to love fish sticks when I was a kiddo. Oddly, I cannot remember what my mom served with the fish sticks. What do you serve along with the fish sticks? A side salad? Ciao!

I'm curious what you have heard about food shortages? I know there have been lots of different foods in my local stores that will be out of stock for a couple weeks, but they have always been refilled. Most of it has to do with the current labor shortages. Since all that has started, I generally tend to keep extra of everything in the cabinet, especially if it's for my picky kids. Lol.

I definitely agree with adding a few extra items weekly. I do believe we will love be having another shortage. Also bird flu has attacked our birds again. And they're having to kill thousands of birds. So we currently are having prices going up on what eggs and chicken you can find.

I guessed $80 for all the I was very close! My Aldi trip is usually around $100 as well.

I regularly do Aldi pickup and it always asks me about possible substitutions ahead of time before they shop. Are you able to do this as well? It is saved with my preferences. For example if I ask for a baby carrots but they're out they will substitute the regular long carrots. And today I selected pears but as a replacement I accepted organic pears. Sometimes I tell them no substitutions for particular item if I only want that thing and then I can get it another time or get it somewhere else if needed. But I make all of these decisions before the shopper even starts shopping.
