Kevin Burke was one of the greatest proponents of plate tectonics and mantle processes. His achievements were recognized by the the European Geosciences Union (EGU) with the Arthur Holmes Medal & Membership (2013) and by the Geological Society of America (GSA) with the Structure and Tectonics Career Award (2004) and the Penrose Medal (2007).
