I don't remember where I first heard this comparison, but the Trinity might also be considered somewhat analogous to space and time.

Space consists of three coordinate values: X, Y, and Z. These coordinates are all space. None of these coordinates are each other.

Time consists of past, present, and future. All of these three are time. None of them are each other.

Mr. B I request you correct my logic.
So if I understand correctly a "what" is a being, like humans, a "who" is a specific human like John. There is only one type of human, but many specific humans. So one "what" but many "who's".
Is it still fair to say there is only one "what" God, like human, and three "who's" the Trinity. So we can say yes there is only one God, just like there is only one mankind?

I'm a Christian who struggles with the concept of the trinity and I have an honest question: how can three persons be one being? For all we know, one person is only ever connected to one being. And to say that jesus is of the same essense that God the Father "consists of" doesn't resolve the issue for me. I am of the same essense as my dad is, namely we are both humans, but we are two beings within our shared essense. So, essence has nothing to do with our being, for me.
I just don't see abdifference between "what" and "who".
What am I? A human being.
Who am I? A particular human being.
