I've done cheap first cars with cheap insurance, but they've mostly been pretty obvious cars... Unique / rare first cars for 17 year olds and new drivers are much more difficult to find, but I've done the research, and here are 10 potential options (some more, and some less desirable), listed from highest to lowest insurance quotes.

Basics of the quote for your reference:
17 year old male (James Bond)
No driving experience (no NCD)
2 named drivers - Sam and Sammy Bond (parents)
Average insurance location - not too expensive, not too cheap (I know some sick areas to get cheap insurance quotes but it would be pointless using them)

i have a ignis sport for about 4 years now, was my second car and i still love it! Fun to drive, cheap to run and you dont see many of them on the road in the netherlands.

Upgraded my one with a front strutbrace, good tires, K&n sport airfilter(fitted by the owner before me) and a fox exhaust.
Yes there are faster cars, but Suzuki proves that you dont need all the hp in the world to have fun with a car!

I have a grey fiat panda 100hp as my first car. They are extremely fun to drive and with a few modifications you can make the suspension feel a bit nicer. But it really does put a smile on your face

My C2 went kaput the other week and I was so close to getting a 100HP Panda due to the insanely good insurance quote for me at 21. But in the end, of course, it had to be a 9N3 which I just purchased today.

Ignis, C30, Alfa. I'd still buy each of them at 36 years old. Great cars, especially the 159 sportwagon. That's still the best looking estate ever made.

Yesss JB been waiting for this video for ages another unique car I can recommend is the Renault Wind 1.2t hardtop convertible I got a quote for around £1500 as a new driver and can be found well under 4k

Heeey, finally some decent cars that aren't a "VW Polo" or "Vauxhall Corsa". I'm past my first car stage, but for some reason I still enjoy watching them lists...

Big Props for getting a CR-Z into your list finally! Should of mentioned that they are manuals cuz some people may think that Hybrid = CVT.
Good first car, cool first project, 200HP is pulling nicely, but I still want to get K24 for it lol and Bigger snail! 500HP I'm coming lol

Subscribed just because of the suzuki ignis sport you never see anyone mention them definitely one of the best cars of its time there's around 1500 left in the UK and that's at a stretch

My mate had an ignis sport and his twin brother has a panda 100... his dad has a Alfa 159 diesel and they share a lancia delta Integrale. That ignis was a riot haha such a good little car
