Satan does not come to you in his true form. He comes to trick people. Tricking people into following God the wrong way and reject Christ makes perfect sense.

The idolaters he’s talking about were quarreling with each other who’s God is the greatest (Satan’s power divided) so it would make sense for Satan unites them into one belief to conquer the truth.
