Jerry said that the reason his jaw was dropped the whole time wasn't because of the story, he was in awe that Jason memorized and delivered it perfectly in one take.

If you're not an actor, you may not realize just how incredible a feat Jason pulled off in that scene. He memorized a page full of text in minutes and put it in the can in one take, with all the nuances and comedic timing.

This man doesnt get the credit he deserves. He's a fantastic actor and his portrayal of George was incredible. He deserved to win multiple Emmys for that role.

One of my favourite bits and definitely up there with the monologue of the library detective.

George:
The sea was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. I got about fifty feet out and suddenly, the great beast appeared before me. I tell you he was ten stories high if he was a foot. As if sensing my presence, he let out a great bellow. I said, "Easy, big fella!" And then, as I watched him struggling, I realized that something was obstructing its breathing. From where I was standing, I could see directly into the eye of the great fish.

Jerry:
Mammal.

George:
Whatever.

Kramer:
Well, what did you do next?

George:
Well then, from out of nowhere, a huge tidal wave lifted me, tossed me like a cork, and I found myself right on top of him - face to face with the blowhole. I could barely see from the waves crashing down upon me, but I knew something was there. So I reached my hand in, felt around, and pulled out the obstruction.

George:
[reveals the obstruction to be a golf ball]

Kramer:
What is that, a Titleist?

[George Nods]

Kramer:
A hole in one, huh?

Jerry:
Well, the crowd most have gone wild!

George:
Oh yes they did Jerry they were all over me. It was like Rocky 1. Diane came up to me, threw her arms around me, and kissed me. We both had tears streaming down our faces. I never saw anyone so beautiful. It was at that moment I decided to tell her I was not a marine biologist!

Jerry:
Wow! What'd she say?

George:
She told me to "Go to hell!" and I took the bus home.

When the show was on the air I thought George was a buffoon. Now I watch the show and I see Jason was brilliant as an actor. I never appreciated his performance like I do now.

The best part of this scene is Jerry's story of his reaction; "If you watch me in that scene, you aren't seeing Jerry the character marveling at his friend George telling this story, you're seeing me marveling at Jason's ability to deliver this monologue perfectly, with very little prep, on the very first take, because that's when the audience's reaction is going to be the best."

That one show inspired an entire generation of children to become marine biologists…or at least pretend to be.

Seinfeld could have survived without Elaine or Kramer, but there is no show without George, and Jason's fantastic acting. He, in my opinion the most talented on set.

Jasons delivery of that final scene was impeccable, but Michael Richard's acting when Jason showed the golfball was on another level. The way he restrained himself from laughing to allow the audience hysterics to continue before his "Is that a Titleist??" line was done with such grace...
Not just some grace, but grace...

The thing about George in Seinfeld is that he was frequently insulted and just took it. It made you feel bad for his character at times. And when you see how calm he really is in interviews like these you realize what an amazing actor he really is.
