The man had the amazing ability to have you on the edge of your seat when absolutely nothing was going on. I am currently binge watching Columbo and there are so many 1.5 hour episodes that have maybe a half hour of actual content, filled the rest of the way up with Columbo just wandering around, stumbling and bumbling...and I enjoy every minute. His character at times makes me think of the ELO song, The Diary of Horace Wimp.

It breaks my heart to know that Peter's children were cut off from him. I loved him as Columbo so much that I bought the entire series on DVD. I can still enjoy his genius, his unique talents and his heart. I feel I would have liked him a lot if I had known him.

I had the great privilege of interviewing Peter Falk in his caravan on a site where he was filming a commercial for Toyota. It was a highlight of my otherwise humble 30 years in various capacities as a journo with a prominent Melbourne newspaper. And long before that interview I had become a fan of 'Colombo'. Forget that. Rather, what is the point of this mini-doco's narrator asking viewers what they thought might be the cause of his difficult final years. It's NONE OF OUR BLOODY BUSINESS! He simply should be remembered as an actor who developed a now iconic character in a memorable and wonderfully performed TV series! RIP Peter.
