Imagine that gunboats want to land in US without having all clear by USCG, please do not fool ourselves, the boats would look like Swiss cheese.
From now on, Ukrainians as everybody else will follow instruction of pilot, safe navigation control center in the strait, international regulation regarding entering territorial waters, and the like that all professional marine officers - commanders do follow without objections, and avoid at all any dangerous maneuvers that might endanger actors in navigable waters. Russians are de facto responsible for this service (control of the strait), and all must follow the lawful orders of coast guard and local maritime authorities. It is their duty, not only right to inspect, search, verify, etc. any vessel entering Russian waters, those ships that are not prepared to this regime have no business to approach, or endanger all around with absurdly dangerous maneuvers.
No Cost guard commander would allow armed vessel to be without pilot and escort trough straints, friend or foe...especially when delicate, vulnerable, narrow under bridge crossing is unprotected or not made safe for numerous other participants at sea or on the road bridge above.
Commentators that are shallow in knowledge on International Maritime law, Navigation, Safety at sea regulations, etc. should limit their comets to facts without speculating this or that, give us facts and live bias behind.
