CONTACT LENSES
I sometimes wear contact lenses in my videos. My eyes are naturally browny/orange, but I like to switch things up with green/blue/grey contacts. Recently I was sent some coloured contacts from a company called TTDEYE who deal with both cosmetic and prescription lenses. I LOVE THEM!!!!
THIS IS NOT AN AFFILIATE LINK….this is just for you xxx

FURTHER INFORMATION
My skin type is combi/dry most of the month, but when hormonal, my skin gets very oily around my t-zone. It's very unpredictable (thanks skin) and I suffer from breakouts (mostly hormonal breakouts...thanks again hormones!)

Hi Everyone,
As I got A LOT of comments about me standing my brushes up in a jar whilst the bristles were wet, I thought I would address them in one comment.
I have been told on numerous occasions that I shouldn't stand my brushes up in a jar as the water can settle in the ferrule and loosen the bristles resulting in the bristles falling out more rapidly over time. After holding my brushes under running water (making sure that the oil is removed from the lower bristles) I really don't have a problem with storing my brushes for 15-20 minutes in an upright position. My brushes are then either laid flat and air dried, or laid flat on a radiator (which is my normal practice) and dried quickly and this is noted in the video.
Although I understand why so many of you have picked me up on this point (and you are correct BTW, this can happen if the brushes are stored this way whilst wet for a long period of time), I am also aware that if I had laid my brushes flat on a towel (which I also do sometimes depending on my mood and the equipment I've remembered to get out) some of you would have disagreed with that method also, as laying brushes flat on a towel can cause mildew and mould in the brushes and can also be unsanitary transferring the bacteria from the towel onto the brushes even if it's a fresh clean towel. If I had laid my brushes flat on a surface, then this would also have been seen as 'wrong' as I wouldn't be protecting my brushes from the bacteria on the side or in the air. Also if I had used a Stylpro (which I don't use but many people have success with and use regularly) a lot of you would also have told me that I would ruin my brushes using that method.
I think what I am trying to say, is although your comments are often correct, valuable and helpful, please remember that the brushes belong to me. I am using them on my face. It is my risk. I have been using this method for over 2 years. I've never lost excessive bristles from any of my brushes whether they be affordable brushes or luxury ones.
I would never imply that my method is the only method that works, nor would I suggest that any of you are doing the process wrong. If it works for you then keep on doing it. This method works for me xxx

I mix equal parts of olive oil and dish liquid, swirl my brushes in it and then rinse. The brushes come out beautifully soft and clean. I lay mine flat to dry to avoid water running into the ferrule and affecting the glue that holds the bristles in place.

FREAKING THANK YOU, GEMMA! You're right. Nobody has a video like this! 🙌

I tried this today, Gemma, and it worked BRILLIANTLY. I usually just use bar soap and warm water and it takes aaaages and can leave the bristles splayed from vigorous scrubbing. Thank you so much 😊

I use a cleansing oil and baby shampoo, mainly because I bought a load of baby shampoo thinking that would be a good brush cleanser (LOL!) I have a cleansing oil that I don't like after trying it on my face, so now I clean my brush instead with it. I also use this method to clean my sponges, which works brilliantly. So glad I am not the only one who finds brush cleaner a gimmick and way too expensive.

I use avocado oil and then dawn but I mix together versus separate. About 4 Tbl Dawn to 2 Tbl oil and my brushes are perfection. No oily residue at all. Try it!

I’ve never thought of using oil as a first step in cleansing. I am always interested in how other people clean their brushes because I wash my brushes after every use (except for large powder brushes and those every 3 or 4 uses). I use lots of cream products and can’t imagine using them with old product on them. It isn’t fun for me to wash my brushes, but it sure is satisfying to have clean, fluffy brushes every day!

I was doing the first half the correct way, but I never thought of using an anti-bacterial soap! Thanks for the tip.

Hi Gemma I thought I was over anxious about cleaning my brushes deep cleaning once a week but I use a brush cleaning wipe after each use . I wash my sponge immediately after using it once. My hubby teases me asking if I have done the whole streets makeup ! Yes I have a lot but to be honest I dislike using a dirty brush, but I know and have seen horrific eye infections being a registered nurse I never ever want to go there ! But I actually enjoy cleaning my makeup and brushes but hey when you have infection control rammed down you all your working life it’s only natural that you take care of your own !

Thank you for sharing this method of cleaning your brushes. Up until now I have always struggled with removing Estee Lauder Double Wear from my brushes, but on Sunday I tried this method with the products you recommended and my face brushes are now perfectly clean. I have never been able to clean them like this before.

I clean mine once a week, but daily swipe them on a micellar wipe. I wash my sponges every single time. I have a holder to store brushes in while they dry - have had it for years, and it's brilliant (from Amazon)! I also have little mesh covers to slip over the bristles to keep them in shape. While we're at it - could I just remind people to wipe off their eyelash curlers and pad - I've noticed so many YouTubers with lash curlers caked in shadow and mascara - eye infection waiting to happen!

I have a shampoo made for makeup brushes that I bought a couple of years ago from Beautylish. It is made by Clean Apothecary.and as the name suggests it’s all natural and very effective. I have two - citrus and lavender.

I use the Johnson's baby shampoo and I fill it up with water 💦 and in a washing up bowl. I just put my brushes under and scrub them. They keep them in good condition as well which I really like. This is what I do with my Sponges I put them under the tap and I squeeze it until its bumpy and let it dry overnight with the brushes. And it's very simple to clean it
