Use the paper towel to push the door open on the way out, too.

Good suggestion, but remember to turn off and turn on the water again using a paper towel or similar. This will help you avoid getting germs on your hands again after you've washed them.

Correction:
1) Turn on spigot
2) Put soap on hands; rub together to coat hands & fingers
3) THEN apply water to activate soap.
4) Rinse
The soap bonds to the dirt/oil on your hands.
The water bonds to the dirty soap and carries it away from hands.

If you apply water to hands first, the a lot of the soap just sits on top of the water, never getting to the skin (probably why soap manufacturers recommend you do so).

Please don't let the water keep running while you are applying the soap. This will help to:
a) save water
b) help you focus on applying the soap properly for a sufficient duration

I hate bathrooms that don't have paper towels and just have air dryers. There's no way to open the door without touching the door handle. Unless I sit there and wait for someone else to come along and open it! :)
