Great video helped out a lot. Im sure alot of people with these model trucks were as confused as i was once i changed the temp sensor. Truck seems to be doing good now.

Finally, someone who can easily explain the sending unit. Smart to show part # and state source. Thanks. I think a faulty one will cause gauge to go up and down. no?

I have a question, if I'm trying to put in a temperature gauge can I use the existing water temperature sensor to my new gauge? And if so how do I know what wire to connect to the gauge?

Had the same issue with my 92 regal 3800 I ordered a coolant sensor by mistake and the plug didn’t fit, glad I’m not the only one with the problem

Its a temp sensing unit that controlls the dash temp gauge. The sensor tells the computer what the tempature is.

What problem was the truck having to make you change this??

Does that have anything to do with the temperature gauge? I replaced the temperature sensor and now my temperature gauge isn't reading anything.

So what is this sending unit for?? I changed the other 1 by the thermostat housing. But what is this one for? Any idea? Does it run the temp gauge on the dash????

changed out temp gauge still reading low. I did the test by grounding it so its not in the dash why else would it read low?

Did the sender work with all that plumber's tape wrapped around it? Seems like that would make for a poor ground to the block.

Old coolant temp switch has the gauge read somewhere between 100 and 210. New coolant temp switch has the gauge read somewhere between 210 and 260. Coolant temp sensor for the computer when connected to a scanner reads 188.

What the hell did I do wrong? There's only one wire on the damn thing, how could I possibly screw that up?

I was having hard start. Some days it would start some days it didn't, change out the sensor next to the water inlet on top. Fired right up been trying to figure this one out for a long time.

Why does it say the part doesn’t fit my vehicle even tho we have the same damn truck

I have the same year with a 454(7.4 L). My driver side sensor is the same as yours. I broke the passenger side sensor. It has a larger diameter probe end on it and a different electrical plug. As of now it doesn’t seem to exist as a direct replacement part. Do your plugs look the same on both sides?
