This simple possession game is fantastic for helping players improve their decision making, and movement off the ball, while of course improving their ability to keep possession.
To prevent players just hanging out in the end zone, you can implement a coupe of rules:
- must receive the ball on the run in the zone
- only one player in the zone at one time
- call offside

Nice excercise this is. It is one of the standard ones Dutch Football Association teaches trainers and I use it frequently as well. As I am an American Football fan as well I always explain this game as a blend of both sports.
Great for trainers to use this in building up your training to the end match during a training session. And you can vary based on your training goals: strike or defend and very the lenght and width of the field. Smaller makes it easier for defenders so you challenge the striking part of your team and vice versa. Personally I like to have the defenders play against the strikers in these type of games.
