Duo was an Android device, I think Nadella regrets missing out on the benefit of having their own mobile OS.

I agree that it's hard to keep trusting Microsoft, and I say this as surface duo (1) owner. I love this device better than any other foldable I have tried for running two apps together. The potential the duo line has is truly sad to see wasted

There's a thread on Reddit in the Surface Duo subreddit about this and it seems people, including me, would still be interested if MS launched another mobile device.

But like you say, it must be very special indeed.

Great video, Shane, thank you.

You hit it all on the head, Shane. I was one of those who went from Windows Mobile 5 and 6, to Windows Phone 7, 8 and 10, then pounced on SD2 when it finally launched here in Australia. Not to mention the Band. Loved them all, then hated how they ruined them with a complete absence of marketing and support. It'd have to be something astounding to draw me back, but a fool and his money are often parted.

And to add insult to injury, can't get the Pixel Fold or most of the OnePlus line here. It sucks being a first-world country, the earliest adopters of tech per-capita, and to be completely ignored by these companies. Gonna go cry in the corner now...

I actually still have both of my windows phones I had before the painful switch to android. There were features that the windows phone had that android still doesn't have, and some that are there on a few phones but now are being phased out. I personally miss windows phone, it was snappy, easy to use and overall functional.

Microsoft really blew it with Surface Duo. If you’re going to launch a product, you got to be all in! Duo’s failure was 💯 due to Microsoft’s lack of commitment to it.

Surface Duo has its issues, but is the best phone I've used by far. I think binning it is a major error on Microsoft's part. I honestly thought this was the early stages of development that would lead to not having to necessarily carry a laptop and ultimately replacing the laptop altogether, instead docking the Duo on arrivial at any workspace.

Hindsight is 20/20. Microsoft does not have the cajones to be in the phone business. A very short sighted company.

Well said! This is the last straw that broke the camels back for me. I bought the surface duo 1, and also bought the duo 2. Duo 2 is the best phone I have ever had. Now it's dead as well. I will never own a windows phone again as MS simply don't respect their phone customer base.

I think Satya was attempting to nullify Panos' Surface Duo adventure at Microsoft...

I'm perfectly fine holding on to my SD2 until the wheels fall off. I'm not an upgrade every year type of person

Microsoft is to phones as Google is to messaging apps... I still miss Google Allo, so many cool features which still aren't in other messaging apps (eg Google assistant in your chat and can add to a conversation, it can show weather, movie times, directions, etc right in a conversation for everyone to see)

I got burned with WP. I wouldn't again be an early adopter if Microsoft released a phone with their own OS. The app gap was real back in the days of WP7 but in today's world that gap would be a chasm. I jumped on Duo because it's android and even if Microsoft stops supporting the device, we will still have access to all apps for years to come. Typing this on a Duo right now. So should Microsoft release another phone with a really cool unique concept then I'd consider it if it's an OS that is supported by apps.

"Why would anyone still trust Microsoft?"
They only need to get it right once. For me, the magic is Windows. Having one cohesive experience across all devices is "the" thing. You need the device and a solid OS and the rest will follow.

I remember an interview with him where they asked him if Windows Phone was here to stay and he said "Absolutely"...I mean, he had to say that...and glad to see he did have regrets.

The only way I would buy another phone from Microsoft is if they put the windows 11 or 12-13 (from the future) on it making it basically a very small pc (on arm) with of course the continuum feature. We already saw what the duo can do with windows 11 but it could go further...

I totally agree. I will never buy a another phone from Micro Soft. I got taken both times.

I had alarm bells warning me not to buy MS hardware. Watching this channel persuaded me to try Surface Duo! I got a great price while never really seeing it as a phone. As a mini folding tablet, it did invent a new category. Handwriting is easier than my iPad, though it has some quirks of course.

I loved my windows phone. Didn't car about the lack of apps. Most apps then and now are garbage.

I think their mistake was not merely putting windows 10/11 on the phone itself. Cellphone processors are at a point now whereas that's possible. They could replace laptops and desktops with docks.
