Canon is killing it. First Nanoimprint Lithography, and now Metalens.

I had three Windows phone in sequence every couple of years. I still miss their simplicity. I think that when they thought of having the same functions on tablet, computer, and phones they realised they would lose profitability as most folk would simply buy a phone and not the rest of the gadgets offered. So the phone had to go.

Microsoft: "Oh no we shouldn't have given up on the phones!"
me: "So just start again. everyone is switching to ARM now, so make a good ARM OS that can be handheld"
Microsoft: no

I loved WinPhone. Had Samsung Omnia 7, then Lumia 920 and later 950. The UI was exactly what I needed - something simple, not overcomplicated and I've seen everything on main tiles (of what I wanted and needed to see). I never really vibed with Android and once Microsoft killed WinPhone I had to switch to iPhone. It really is a shame they killed it. They could easily have Surface-Lumia combo like Macbook-iPad-iPhone.

I hope Satya's regrets about mobile can manifest into ambitions by Microsoft into the mobile market, yet again

Those flat lenses are just the concept of fresnel lenses pushed towards the extreme.

I cant wait to see how they perform. I only went to mac for the processing prowess and batter life. Its about time we got another option.

I was hoping by having Snapdragon Elite, we could safely and efficiently dual boot OS from Android to Windows.

I'm really interested when the switch away from X86 for desktop PCs will happen. Most users just don't need the backwards compatibility, as seen with the switch to smartphones and tablets.

I hope that Steam-Deck-class gizmos eventually switch to ARM, but not before they can run Steam/GOG like native x86. Excited to see AMD's take on ARM.

Windows phone was so promising I love my windows phones. Has a HTC one. The lack of WhatsApp was kinda a bummer but back then sms was still a thing. However, having your working pc with just a plug into a monitor away was so amazing to think about - something much more advance than Samsung dex which came out more a decade later and is a total disappointment.

Woah. The metalenses could be huge in several years for XR applications. This could truly make the glasses sized XR headset

It just dawned on me that, if/when Windows on ARM becomes a thing (as in with a decent software compatibility), we might have more competition on the CPU space than we've ever had on x86, with extremely well positioned companies. Hopefully they are adaptable with regards to modularity and upgradeability. I don't think the PC space might accept SoC a la Apple too gladly outside laptops.

I miss my Windows Phone. If it's ever resurrected, I'd switch back in a heartbeat.

I think if Qualcomm's claim that their chip is more powerful than the M2 Max as per their benchmarks is true then this is going to be incredible. Even if the chip is slower than the upcoming M3 version of Apple silicon, it's still incredibly powerful and closes the gap with Apple and will be more than enough for most people. I'll be excited to finally get a device that's very powerful and also energy efficient so that I can get incredible battery life on a Windows laptop! I'm really excited about what the ARM era on Windows will be like!

Killing the windows was their biggest mistake I'm sure by now they'd have atleast a third of the economy and they'd make a pretty good ecosystem with their windows pc and phones I used to like my windows phone so much and it hurt me when they stopped.

I missed early windows phone where it aggregated all of the social media platforms to your contacts. So you could see updates from your contacts in one hub. I followed all the way from brown zune and loved the UI evolution. Havent had a better phone experience on ios or android
