Finding Target Superheat to Check the Charge of an R-410A AC Unit!

Показать описание
In this HVAC Video, I Show How to Find The Target Superheat on an R-410A Air Conditioner with a Piston Fixed Orifice Metering Device. I show how to Compare the Target Superheat to the Actual Superheat while Checking the Refrigerant Charge with Compound and Digital Manifold Gauge Sets. A Psychrometer is Needed to Find the Wet Bulb Temp for Target Superheat. I explain how to determine if the unit is undercharged, overcharged, or correctly charged. Supervision is needed by a licensed HVACR Tech while performing tasks as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

Had a System today. 0 superheat 30 subcooling. Had to take out 1lb of refrigerant to get the superheat on point. I always use your chart.

Great channel Craig, I am a mature student after many years as a plumber and a move from the UK to Australia I have moved onto HVAC, my question. Do you have any plans to do a metric version of the book ?

Is the indoor wet bulb temperature just a reading of the temperature inside the return ? Or is a special tool required to calculate it ?

I have replaced a heat pump compressor(2ton) that had r-22 and i filled it with mo-99... replaced filter dryer, did a nitrogen pressure, pulled a good vacuum... the evaporator is a fur down unit (pancake) i checked both piston... blowers are ok
..the problem I have is that the compressor making a hissing noise, Low side 115 psi, 15 sh, vsat 71.4, slt 86.3....hi side 168, -OL sc (no subcooling), 85 LSAT, 86.6LLT....had a a/c company called in and said was the valves 🤔 went ahead a replaced it with another compressor same problem no enough super heat/no cooling properly...
Did replaced filter from the beginning...coils inside evaporator and condenser clean.
I KNOW THERE'S A PROBLEM BECAUSE NO COOLING PROPERLY/HAVE USED DIGITAL AND ANALOG GAUGES BUT DON'T HAVE PROPER READING...I HAVE OVER CHARGE AND UNDER CHARGE IT ON PURPOSE TO SEE BUT CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT....

Hey Craig, can you do a video on how to check sub cooling and super heat on packaged units please

I am trying to wrap my mind around what is happening to the gas if the SH is way low, I.e. you said "if low to 5 or so, we want to make sure we're not sucking liquid back too the compressor". So that would be overcharged robbing volume? causing a lack of space for expansion to take place?

Craig, I wish you explained in this video better to its listeners WHY you are checking the WBT in the return at the air handler and not the DBT. So let me explain the missing info. You only check the WBT if the relative humidity is above 70% or below 20%. Anything in between you are to check the DBT at the return.

Why were the digital and analog readings so different? Super heat on Analog was 14 and Digital it was 7.5. Why is that?

I’m fresh out of HVAC school so this might be a stupid question but I believe I heard that if your suction line temp is 65 or above that it’s bad for the compressor or maybe it’s just Copeland compressors?
