How to Check the Charge in Superheat for Fixed Orifices! SMAN460 WB & DB

Показать описание
In this HVACR Training Video, I show how to use the SMAN460 Digital Gauge Set to Check the Refrigerant Charge on an R-22 System with a Piston Fixed Orifice. We use the Superheat Method and I show how to Manually Input the Indoor Wet Bulb and Outdoor Dry Bulb Temps as well as how to Wirelessly read the WB and DB in order for the SMAN to calculated Target Superheat.
I show correct charge and describe low charge and overcharged scenarios. Supervision is needed by a licensed HVACR Tech while doing this as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

Great video Craig. I really learned a lot. I have one question for you. Would it be possible to take subcooling readings as well as superheat readings without hooking up your gauges to the condensor unit. I took a HVACR class about 8 years ago and my instructor said that was one of his biggest mistakes he saw technicians doing. He said that you should first take your superheat and subcooling readings first, figure what the system is doing, and what it should be doing. Once that is established then you can proceed to connect your gauges. By hooking up your gauges each time you are constantly introducing air and non condensables into the system. If you have one technician after another doing this. You will cause other problems to the a/c system. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for all you do.

Could you make a video on how to properly use the digital gauges?

Hi, great videos. What I would like ton know is what if your indoor wet bulb and ambient end up x ( no number) spot on the chart? What's your superheat then?

ac service tech this is a little off topic. I was reading modern refrigeration and AC and it stated " the liquid recovery method should not be used on all systems. Do not use liquid recovery on either heat pump systems or systems with less than ten pounds of refrigerant. " Can you interpret that for me ? Not understanding why that would be an issue at all....

Really good information.
Just wondering about how much refrigerant would you remove to change the superheat by one degree.
I guess you would weigh it in ounces as you remove it.
Thank you.

Do they still make systems with fixed orifices? Every modern system I come across has a TXV valve

I use a SDP2 with a SMAN460 for wireless IDWB. Can I sync another wireless Fieldpiece instrument for ODDB and what would it be if possible.

I had a big issue with a furdown (pancake) unit that nobody could helped me...i even called two a/c companies...called few of my old bosses VERY LOW super heat...i over charged system...i under charged system...i replaced compressor ... replaced dryer filter...vacuumed system...checked inside coil from access panel 1'x1' was able to see only one side of coil (clean)so the last resort was to replaced the inside coil and guess what ...when i removed the motor the fans and the wheels squirrel that's when i found out the issue... 70% of that side of the coils FULL of MOLD ...between parts and time 5, 000$ down the drain..ps im not a master technician but felt good finding the problem after so much research...MOLD A TOPIC NOT MUCH COVER ON A/C VIDEOS...🤔

Hi. I had an instance today that was confusing to me while trying to determine required superheat. Indoor WB=58 degrees; Vapor PSIG=60; Vapor line temp=47 degrees, outdoor dry bulb (temperature around condenser) = 96 degrees. There is no intersection of 58 WB and 96 dry bulb on the chart that gives a required superheat. I was using a Testo 550 digital gauge set. Domestic unit has fixed orifice. Am I missing something? Thanks.

So you cant use delta t 16-20? On systems with a piston 410?

I have a fixed orifice r22 system that was just changed over to r407, would I determine the superheated and charge level any differently?
Also had this been a variable orifice system would the target subcool be that is specified on the name plate for r22.

Do you use the same gauges on different refrigerant? Is so what do you do to keep them clean

Yo A.C I recently bought the Sman 460 . I'm having doubts when I use it for a vacuum though as in im not sure why when I shut down my vaccum and valves why my micron reading keeps climbing way above 500 . Could you make video on the Sman 46o and all its functions . I think field piece is this best .

Is the superheat wet bulb chart that is usually by the rating plate at the condenser on split systems universal? Because there has been times when I see them rubbed off due to weathering.
