Good job Tom hanks .!! That’s what I feel too . I left school and observe people and things and learned the real history of all over the world and American history. I learned the right things on my own and I’m dissabled and struggle academically

I have been saying this for years. Because if...if Tulsa could have survived where could positive black people in U.S. be now.

Almost every state had a Tulsa. The south side of Chicago had a Tulsa. Many places, Detroit, had a Tulsa, NY’s Central Park was built over a destroyed Tulsa.

Tulsa is only one of the worst… but not the only one.

So many cases of ruthless individuals denied the right to live to Black people and Native Americans : remember the Mooshine massacres during which a whole community of Native Americans has been kicked out of their land and / or killed because they found out the oil was seeping from the land.

A shame.

Tom Hnaks is right.
Americans must reckon with the real history of America.

It should be mandatory for all of our public schools to teach the existence of black people and white as well as native Indians living and working on these Americas before the arrival of Europeans.

Mr Hank, there’s a world of information that is never taught. And each year they teach less! You can say Americans are historically challenged.

Tulsa is not the only place, it also happened in Chicago, Rosewood and other cities
John Singleton direct the movie Rosewood that was based on a true story staring Ving Rhames and Don Cheadle

Rosewood clip

It is a lot of things that they don't teach in school.
Tulsa massacre, Rosewood
Trail of tears, putting Japanese in intermittent camps during WW2, Tuskegee experiment on Black men, the father of gynecology experiment on Black female slaves and so much more

I taught 6th grade English in Oklahoma and every year we read a book called “Tulsa Burning “. It’s an amazing historical fiction about the massacre. The author, Anna Myers, would come and speak to our classes and educate our students about this historical event. Until I started teaching I had never heard of it and I was raised in Oklahoma!

My town of Springfield, Illinois had a race riot in 1908. About 100 years later, then Senator Barack Obama made his announcement in town. Not once on any of those events was it ever delved into. It was only a statue here with no context.

Enter 2012 we're finally making high speed rail a priority moving the line from our hospital district to the town's unofficial dividing line of 10th street. When they started excavation for the underpasses, the bodies, items and other remains they found were enough to transform the project immediately. Even now, our Senators Duckworth and Durbin are trying to make the area a historical site, much to long time residents' chagrin. They believe it's just dredging up harmful memories of the past. But that's the point, without learning the past in all its bloody truth, we're doomed to repeat those grave errors.
