Where Does Complexity Come From? (Big Picture Ep. 3/5)

This video is about the difference between complexity and entropy, and how we can see complex things like life, planets, galaxies, humans, intelligence, consciousness, etc arising in our universe when the overall tendency of the second law of thermodynamics is towards increasing entropy and disorder. It turns out that gravitational collapse & other complex structures (such as tendrils that form when coffee and milk mix) arise naturally as part of the path towards increasing entropy.

For anyone who hasn't read The Big Picture, I highly recommend it. Sean Carroll explains really complex topics like quantum field theory and cosmology with a great deal of clarity and he really strives to make these topics accessible to the average reader.

Not bad, considering the simplifications and glossing over, etc that a 3 minute video on a vast subject such as thermodynamics required. My college text book for thermodynamics was Max Planck's treatise on thermodynamics.

You want an even faster, glossier over-simplification of thermodynamics?
