Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas. This condition often leads to sleep, memory, and mood issues. It's believed that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting how your brain processes pain signals.

Individuals living with fibromyalgia frequently endure pain, which tends to concentrate around specific areas of the body known as tender points or trigger points. These points are usually found within the soft tissues across various parts, including the back of the neck, shoulders, chest, lower back, hips, shins, elbows, and knees. Understanding the location of these points can be crucial for both diagnosis and management of fibromyalgia.

Several factors play a role in the occurrence of fibromyalgia. Genetics is a significant component, as fibromyalgia tends to run in families, suggesting that certain genetic mutations may increase susceptibility to this condition. Infections are another contributing factor, with some illnesses known to trigger or exacerbate fibromyalgia symptoms. Physical or emotional trauma is also a catalyst; for instance, individuals experiencing severe stress or those with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may find themselves at a higher risk of developing fibromyalgia. Additionally, issues within the central nervous system can alter the way the brain and spinal cord process pain signals, leading to fibromyalgia.

Common symptoms of fibromyalgia include:

-Tender Pain Points on the Body
-Trouble Sleeping
-Morning Stiffness
-Headaches
-Painful Menstruation
-Tingling or Numbness in the Hands and Feet
-Problems with Thinking and Memory
-Digestive Issues

Our Pain and Spine Specialists team understands that living with fibromyalgia can be challenging. So, we are committed to helping you manage your symptoms and improve your quality of life with various treatment options tailored to your needs.

While not typically used as a first line of treatment for fibromyalgia, certain types of injection therapies may provide relief for some patients. This can include trigger point injections. Trigger point injections involve injecting medications into specific points to alleviate pain. This can be particularly effective for muscle groups contributing to pain and discomfort.

Conventional treatments for fibromyalgia often involve a combination of medication and physical therapy. For example, medication management programs are designed to manage the use of medications in treating chronic pain. They aim to optimize drug therapy to improve patient outcomes. Physical therapy for fibromyalgia can help improve musculoskeletal strength and flexibility and reduce pain. It's often recommended as part of a comprehensive fibromyalgia treatment plan.

Many patients find relief from alternative and natural treatments for fibromyalgia. At Pain and Spine Specialists, we partner with Shakthi and Health and Wellness Center to give access to many of these alternative treatments, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). TMS is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression and other conditions. Another treatment option is lymphatic enhancement. Lymphatic enhancement aims to improve lymphatic circulation in the body, which can help boost the immune system and improve overall health.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1993, I also have Degeneration of my Lumbar Spine ( Facet Joints) and Hypermobile Joints. Throughout the years I've had Physiotherapy, Hydrotherapy, Steroid Injections into various joints including my Spine. Sadly I now rely on Pain Medication to see me through the day and suffer with bad insomnia at night. I'm in the midst of a flare-up at the moment where the fatigue is at it's worst. I just keep going as best I can. It's a miserable condition and sometimes it's hard to stay positive.

I suffered 7 years until I took These supplements, which worked for me in 2 days! --> Magnesium L Threonate (must be that specific magnesium), Benfotiamine (type of B1), Vitamin B6 and Vitamin D3. No Rx needed...all supplements. It helped my sister in law too. Pain levels went from an 8 out of 10 to a level 2 out of 10.
