The Nikon Z8 is rumored to be a 61-megapixel camera with capabilities to shoot 240 megapixels of hi-res images. On top of that, it seems like Nikon has patented a new design and put in the orders for Sony's new Exmor R sensors. So, in today's video, we will discuss all that we know until now about the Nikon Z8.

Waiting to see what they release! Then I will move up from my Z6II. Hopefully it will be built for more photography than video.

The Nikon Z9 is an excellent testament to the design, engineering, manufacturing and supportability prowess of the Nikon corporation. Moving ideas from concept to implementation to testing to production is no small feat for any commercial venture especially when the end product has stringent design/operating budgets for components including space, size, heat, power, heat dissipation, duty-cycle, reliability, testing, calibration, production and durability to name a few. As a former design engineer, I marvel at the accomplishment of the Nikon camera team to deliver a flagship model in under 3 years. That said, I do believe that the Z line(Zfc, Z50, Z5, Z6, Z6II, Z7, Z7II and Z9) will continue as is without a Z8 in the near term, because of pricing, component availability and manufacturing issues. A $3.5-4.0K camera (Z8) with some flow down features from the Z9 would be a Z7/Z7II killer. And the Z7 and Z7II have room to grow without introducing another model requiring additional corporate supportability and reducing corporate resources. The energy budget is constrained by available power (energy storage). Nikon uses two batteries (EN-EL15x, EN-EL18x). Newer bodies would probably use a combination of these batteries to power design. As such, limitations arise in possible features set of a new Z8 if Z7 comparable size body desired. The Z9 and its feature set, are packaged as small as possible given all the specification requirements and durability constraints. It has to work/perform ALWAYS. Future Z models will include more computational photography and more image processing features. In the mean time, given the world-wide shortage in processor/chip deliveries, other supply chain items, development constraints and limited corporate resources, expect improvements in Z6II/Z7II products with FW 2.0 around August 2022. Expect a possible Z8 in late 2023 perhaps.

A 45 MPx stacked sensor is enough for my needs. Mechanical shutter speed 10 / s. Electronic 20 / s. and 3D tracking of moving objects is important.

All I care about is that the Z8 would do well with sports/equine photography. If eye tracking is improved over the 7ii, that would be great. Personally... I have no desire for video enhancements or video at all, for that matter. Just give me a great camera for photography only, and I will be happy. I bet many others feel the same way.

I don't know who started this 61MP rumours but Nikon not gonna use that onld Sony 61MP sensor for Z8. they may endup using Z9 45MP stacked sensor with some performance compromised compared to Z9.

Nikon is strategically planning their Z series bodies. Right from entry level, Enthusiast, Prosumer and Pro level. Now that DSLR's are going to be phased out they need to get Z bodies quickly on to the shelves:
1) Z30 going to replace the D3xxx series. 2) Z50 to replace D5xxx series.3) Z70 to replace D7xxx series & 4) Z90 to replace D500 series... The entry level Z30 series would carry the 20.9MP sensor and no viewfinder. The Enthusiast level Z50 again with similar sensor of 20.9MP but with viewfinder. The Prosumer level Z70 with 33MP sensor & Z90 with 33/45MP sensor with all the works of Z9 trickling down into both model's ie Z70/Z90. The Z8 is going to be an 61MP FX sensor to replace the D850 series again with the Z9 works trickling down into it... Wait an watch. Nikons going to be the Market Leader for sure....

While I might wish for the spec described here - this video is 100% speculation - certainly NOT a scoop.
The truth emerges 2 mins in - followed by many "mights" "coulds" "...".
The next Nikon Dev Release for Nikon Mirrorless Bodies will be for the Z6III and Z7III.

The 61 MP Sony sensor is 2019 technology so I suspect they will go with the newer Z9 45 MP sensor. The high res is already done in the Olympus OM-1 by merging several 20 MP exposures, both 50 MP hand-held and 80 MP on a tripod. They already copied OM's pre-capture so why not their high-res as well. I am wondering what niche they are hoping to capture? Wedding photographers aren't likely to switch from Canon and wildlife and sports guys have the Z9, but would appreciate a smaller body. Replacing the D850 would be my guess, but they could do that with a Z7iii.

If Z8 used Dual Z9 Processors, has 80 or 100MP (can be set from 20MP with 10MP increment in Full Frame), without Extra Battery Grip, Body size the same as Z6ii or Z7ii, including 2 card slots of B type. That could be another New Level.

Late play by Nikon, but I want to upgrade from a D7500. I'm hoping this will be the one and it will be affordable. I want improved eye tracking. Sony has it.

Z8 ? I am very fond with my D850, because it's big size, that fit perfect in my hands. Hope the future Z8 will be at least big like the Z9, not as the little Z7, and Z6, models, so painful to handle...

You cannot even get a z9 yet! Be out of date by the time released.

The question is will it be worth waiting until 2024 for the delivery of Z8 with 60MP, or just get the Z9 40MP. If we don't get at least an announcement this year its going to be 2024-25 the earliest.
