I was finally diagnosed this year at 47. I suspected 20 yrs ago, but was told I wasn't. However, here are some things that made sense after diagnosis.
"It's not the taste, it's something about the texture I don't like."
"I wasn't trying to be mean..."
"I'm a patterns person."
"I read textbooks for fun."
"Idk why I rock."

Just took this test and scored 22. “A strong likelihood of Aspeger’s syndrome”. I will most likely go on and seek a formal diagnosis too. Thank you so much for your videos and help. This is both a great relief and an eye opener for me. I’ve always known I didn’t fit in socially, I have cerebral palsy too and often felt really sad I couldn’t make friends easily or find that I was just awkward in social settings. Now I can accept who I am and relax knowing it’s a good thing. I’m an Aspi and that’s ok. 😊👍🏼

"I am more interested in finding out about ‘things’ than people."
So, imagine it's Teatime and your guest politely asks you about the difference, what do you answer?
Are dead people considered people anymore?
Have fictional people ever been considered people?
What is the difference between the dead and the fictional anyway?
And how would you go about inhuming Santa?

Other gems:
"It’s difficult for me to understand other people’s facial expression and body language."
Not in the slightest. Most people just seem very clueless about the signals they are sending (from a certain point of vies, which is to say: mine).

"People close to me say I talk about the same things repeatedly."
Not to my face. Now what?

"It’s important to me to carefully plan any activities I am going to do."
Work-related: Definitely! Laisure-time: Hell, no!

"I like doing things spontaneously."
Just the reversal of the previous one, isn't it? And since I like my off-time...

Strongly believe I have aspergers, wasn't something I've ever really considered however I have noticed (esp in later years) that I've always been quite different from many others, most noticeably socially. Did some reading and a bunch of tests online and always scored with the "suspected autism/aspergers" so now I've booked an appointment and hopefully will go through an investigation. Currently 19 years old and definitely wish I was tested many years ago, could potentially have saved a whole lot of confusion.

I scored 26. Somehow, I made it to the age of 53 without having the slightest clue that I was on the spectrum. That’s partly because I didn’t know anything about autism. My mother was concerned enough about my lack of social skills when I was three that she took me to the pediatrician to ask about it. Unfortunately, the doctor didn’t know enough about autism back then to diagnose me or get me any sort of help; he just told my mother to put me in preschool so I’d learn social skills. Sort of like teaching a child to swim by tossing them into the pool by themselves.

Now that I’ve been diagnosed, I’m trying to figure out what it means to have ASD. I’ve been married for 23 years, my stepchildren are adults now, and I’ve had the same job for 20 years, so I’m obviously not failing in life. I’m just anxious and depressed most of the time. A lot of that comes from my diagnosis with a degenerative neurological disease a few years ago, but the anxiety goes all the way back to childhood. I’ve been seeing a therapist for years, but he admits that he has very little experience with autism so he’s not entirely sure what to do with my diagnosis, either.

Rule number 1 of fight club, you don’t talk about fight club, BUT you can wear a hat promoting it, you just can’t talk about the hat.

It’s pretty amazing after having my son and learning so much. My wife and I start going through our friends, family and past and flags start popping up… her father, one of my best friends.. we question ourselves. I’m ADHD but it’s pretty cool to look back and …’that makes sense now’ discussions. Of course we aren’t diagnosing. Just discussing amongst ourselves. Love you vids as always. Great content and production. 👍. My wife and I suspect Dyslexia and he’s being tested. I hope if he is, we can adjust and improve his reading education. (He is 7) I’m curious how it’s done differently as a dyslexic. Learning to read and write. My wife is a speed language pathologist and that helps with insight as she’s worked in all the fields but very interested to see what improvements will happen once he’s diagnosed. (Assuming he is)

Oh, 22. I hate the official test. Like „what museum and what theatre“? A lot of tests do not consider how you learned to cope as a not diagnosed adult. I made a long test, too and had 140 points neurodiverse vs 70 points neurotypical. This test is OK because it is about struggles not about what you actually like doing. But it is still like: what’s spontaneous? If I have still enough time to think about a change in my plans, everything is OK. And I DO understand most jokes like I know how they should work, but I do not like them. I once read about how most jokes work so I can understand them, but I prefer cabaret or playing with language. The tests are a indicator, but you have to look for „your“ patterns, how you work. Especially in the official test. For example I have no problem visiting a theatre. I have a fixed place and concentrate on the play. But in Museums everybody moves and I always have different people in different situations. More distressing although the theatre is considered the more distressing situation. On a party I have my friends and know how to behave but I always had problems working in a library when people popped in suddenly. Do I have to say hello? What is the person doing? What did I just read? I am good in well defined social contexts and terrible in unknown situations.

When my family and I moved to central Texas in 2008 I believe, we went to a professional in Borene and she diagnosed me with PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified). My mother did most of the research on what I could have and my mother and father came down to a conclusion that I have Asperger’s Syndrome. I have a HUGE fascination with history in general, historical dates, and the periodic table of elements. I also still have a fascination with spinning objects. When I was little, I used to bring a clothes hanger that could spin and even though I’m turning 19, I still have a little model helicopter and I spin the blades on it every once in a while. I’ve gotten better but I do not like loud noises and when I was little, I used to scream and scratch my body. I only have a group of three friends to this day but I’m still a very friendly person to meet but I have a unusually hard time making friendships last. I can’t look people in the eyes, instead I look at them at their forehead or their eyebrow area. My Asperger’s definitely became more mild the more I grew up and worked with it but I still have god awful motor skills. I am soon to be graduated and after that I will start studying library science and become a librarian! So Probably definitely on the spectrum but I do not know where I lie exactly because of my unofficial diagnosis. I will definitely check with someone soon and see if I have Asperger’s or If I’m on the higher autistic spectrum.

People who mask might score lower. This test is geared towards non maskers.

I was answering the questions just before you and got pretty much the same answers... Maybe I should book a test with my doctor and get this over with.. It'd answer so many questions about everything thats been going on in my 56 years on this planet..

I don't need to be interrupted to have a hard time getting back to what I was doing. I sometimes lose focus on my own and start doing something else that I needed to do later, just like in a conversation I can be all over the place. I start talking about one thing, then think I need to give context of what I was talking about and go back to another time to try to explain why I got to where I am in the present time. Not sure if that makes sense.

QUESTION 🙋🏽‍♀️ How to handle “Ghosting” as an Aspie. (Obsessive thoughts)

I think this is awesome, it's definitely beneficial to have an autism test by someone who is autistic such as yourself Dan. I would suggest to have a "neutral" option in your test though, just in case someone feels that way to a question like I did with a few of them. Keep up the great content!

I made a score of 23 but believe if I did not mask so often I would score much higher. Even my psychiatrist had to tell me I am deff autistic I just hide it and she also warned me I should not mask as much as I do because it could be harmful. I believe she was right because the less I mask the more real I feel. I just know if I don't mask things like cops stopping me to see if I am on drugs or people judging would deff happen alot more and I would get no help from the outside world and I would be forced to stay cooped up in my house NEVER leaving.
