I prefer no difficulty settings, but im also ok with simply not being able to turn down the difficulty once you start a new game. Im currently re-playing Breath of the Wild and noticed there is no difficulty setting in it (aside from Master Mode to make it harder), and I love that. I love actually being challenged, but I dont like things that are difficult purely for the sake of being difficult. I imagine thats a very hard thing to balance though. But yea, in a world where so many modern games hold your hand and feel braindead to play, difficult games become all the more refreshing and I believe you will gain a lot more popularity via word of mouth from a game that is challenging.

Not every game needs to be for everyone is my ultimate stance. You can never please everyone in life, and I think thats true in video games.

Love your idea and ambitions for the game btw. Really love you said "theres no X type of game exploring X culture" and decided to make it yourself. Thats awesome. One of my favorite parts about playing games from outside the US or based in other cultures (and also with watching anime) is seeing the differences in culture and getting to explore parts of a culture Id otherwise not be exposed to. I think thats really interesting. Very excited for your game and I wish you the best of luck!!

And my apologies if youve stated this sooner and I missed it, but have you chosen a name for your game yet? I want to make sure I keep an eye out for it :)

No difficulty setting. Do what elden ring does, where it gives you optional content to do if you get stuck on a boss. Obviously not to the degree that elden ring does it, making it openworld would be very hard, but just like an extra area near the boss.

Of course souls games are unfair, that’s the whole point most of the time. But with Elden ring, it shows how there are other ways to make games easier and harder by what build or weapons you choose.
