As an alternative to Q-Tips, which are prone to leaving tiny cotton threads behind, I recommend also having Proxabrush teeth cleaning brushes in your toolkit. They are tiny pipe-cleaner like sticks, made to clean between teeth as an alternative to dental floss, and can be found wherever one purchases dental products. They also come in different sizes and are extremely handy for cleaning between small parts.

I have already done exactly this 2 times on my 3~4 years old DS4. With excelent results both times.
Very good video, its very important to clean the inside of the green parts too where the wheels make contact... not just the wheels.

Guys if this doesn't help (it probably wont ) use next method, simply increase the deadzone on your analog if the drifting isnt significant, helped me a lot

I'm glad that you still put out ps4 controller videos since they are the only ones that fit my hands.

I didn't have any rubbing alcohol or q-tips, but I had hand sanitizer and paper towels. I just set the little buggers to soak in a blob of alcohol gel for a bit, and then rolled them around in a wet paper towel, rinsed them off in the sink under pressure for good measure, and then dried them completely with a can of air. Worked like a charm, thanks!

I am not a technical person when it comes to doing things like this but thanks to your video I was able to do it slow and with no problems. Thank you so much for posting this cause it save me 60 bucks and instead my controller can live another day.

Cheers for this. For the viewer: careful with the axis sensors, they are *so* fiddly. Was sure I screwed up somewhere between peeling them out and shoving them back in. I didn't (apparently), but nor did I manage to fix my problem -- not surprised, it's a tiny drift. Regardless, thanks for showing us the stick assembly in detail.

I actually learned to do this when working from home during covid. Had a lot of free time and about 7 drifty controllers.

I ended up successfully fixing 6 of the 7 controllers just by cleaning them out with q tips and alcohol.

I'm terrible with this type of stuff so, if you're a little scared of taking stuff apart, don't be. Give it a shot. Couldnsave you $50 or whatever.

Alright I'm coming clean... I find your tips and trick videos very useful and helpful, but this one I gotta distance from. I've taken PS4 controllers apart and some tiny piece always broke off or the triggers couldn't be placed back in with no way to fix it again. I'd rather buy a new controller.

Awesome! Thank you for this! I have 2 controllers sitting in a drawer that I can't use due to the severity of the stick-drift. When I get a minute I'm going to open them up and try this out!

A guitar pick might work in place of a pry tool. Thank you for your informative video

I hope Sony learns from this, and change it where games don’t require you to push down on the Analog sticks. So many games require this, but yet Sony doesn’t adjust the issue, because stick drift happens on the PS5. Stick drift was so bad on my PS4, that I had to move Ghost of Tsushima over to the PS5 to finish it. 😕

I had some ridiculous random stick inputs while playing. It took me about 20 mins to do... and it fixed the problem!! Great simple video. Thank you so much!

Great video, short but very informative and precise in delivering information to the viewer!

I just hate it when they make a 10-15-20 min video out of something like this when a 2 min video can do a much better job.

Worked for mine, thanx man, saved me $80. I share mine with my 7 year old boy who plays Fortnite, he is rough with the controller.

Thank you! Cleaned some junk out of the compartment for the "Y Sensor", and now the stick works just fine! My DS4 is beat up in a few ways with a mix of new and old parts, but I'm hoping to get a few more years out of it.
