What You can do RIGHT NOW for Evening FUN in Pattaya

Tonight we escape from Pattaya by chartering a boat. We will meet the boat at sunset on the beach, where our crew will set sail just a short distance off shore for and evening at sea. What will the catch of the day be? Probably something you least expect, but although our crew has only limited success, they enjoy the fruits of their labor fresh off the grill under a moonlit sky. Enjoy the Ride!

Actually squid hunt prawns and small baitfish. The lights attract the prawns and baitfish which in turn attract the squid. Most Japanese made squid jigs are perfectly weighted so that they hang in the water like a prawn and rod work is used to cause the jig to dart forward like a prawn which excites the squid into attacking. In Australia, from birth to death, southern calamari and arrow squid live 12-18 months - from minute to up to 4kgs.

Excellent video ...I can see those boats every night from my balcony in Wongamat, now I know how they are catching them.

I don't know why, but I always imagined that they caught them in nets. Thanks Lucas I learned something from you.

I remember when squid was being pulled out of the sea by the tons . You could see squid boats basically everywhere with their bright lights attracting and catching squid . That was 20 years ago and I thought at the time that squid was being overfished . It’s the same in Vietnam, they have overfished the South China Sea . They eat everting they catch and don’t give the fish enough time to re-stock .

Before I retired I use to drive tractor trailer for Cooks Lobster in Bailey Island Maine. I use to haul lobsters and another job I had was hauling the drinking water for their restaurant in from Brunswick Maine. Many nights when I hauled the 7000 gallon tanker of water and was dumping it into a holding tank under the restaurant, I would walk down the pier and watch people fishing for squid from the pier. The ones they caught were 8 to 12 inches long. The lights on the pier would attract them. They would fish for a couple hours and catch 20 or 30 of them. It was interesting but it's something I wouldn't eat.

I am not a big fan of placing so many checkpoints in such a small area as it seems to happen in Pattaya. I recall a few years back I was traveling from South Pattaya and back on a motorbike and was stopped 6 times. I was totally legal, broke no laws, and looked and blended in like the rest of the motorbikes; I guess it was my unlucky day! It certainly killed the fun vib for the day. I find so many checkpoints a bit of an overkill. But I am a guest in another country so you roll with the flow. Live is good! Thanks for taking us along on your fishing expedition! Cheers!!

Some of the local fishermen will take you out for 200 - 300 baht for the night but you must stay until they are ready to come in. This helps to supplement their income. Not the same luxury speedboat that you went on.

I remember doing this as a kid 30 or 40 years ago for bait with a hand line. Always remember to duck back to avoid that ink shot when they break water. Cheers from Nova Scotia

I'd like to see a checkpoint stop. I never got caught in one, but my friend got caught in one in Chaing Mai- got a ticket because he didnt have his passport with him and no helmet. So curious as to what it entails. At the beginning of my last trip in BKK, cops were stopping random falang on the sidewalk as they walked- luckily I was in a coffee shop, waited and then scooted in the opposite direction. I always wondered about it tho. Walking around with your passport seems like youre asking for trouble.
