Why Don’t You Do Right (Jessica Rabbit) 【covered by Anna】

Hello everyone! This week I (re)sang Why Don’t You Do Right from lots of different things but this one is based off of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, sung by Jessica Rabbit in the film.

Before you ask, yes this is a reupload (and technically a redo)! I’ve been having a lot of questions surrounding why some of my videos just disappear and I know for some people the term “copyright” isn’t a super great explanation but it’s typically the easiest. Not everyone really cares about this kind of thing but the last thing I want is for people to be left confused and see this as a ploy to make money. I also don’t want to scare smaller creators or potential creators out of making videos because of my crummy situation.

The long and the short of it is that making covers is all one big grey area on Youtube, that’s the simplest way to put it. Now my issues don’t actually stem from the song copyright itself, more so the instrumentals. A few months back, I Won’t Say I’m In Love was taken down with a strike. When people talk about copyright on YouTube, it’s usually about claims. Claims just mean that the supposed owners of the copyrighted content receive all revenue generated. It’s a lil wack for non music channels, but all of us deal with it and know the rules and workarounds. Now, strikes are the scary ones. If I get three of those in a certain time frame, my channel can be terminated and that’s the last thing I think anyone wants. I was pretty diligent after I Won’t Say I’m In Love got taken down, I emailed the person who initiated the strike multiple times and received no response. I wasn’t even sure what the takedown was for. It could’ve been art or music or instrumental, I had no idea because I never got an answer. That strike eventually went away (they disappear after 3 months) but soon after, Friends On The Otherside was striked and taken down as well. The same company initiated the takedown and again, after contacting them I still have no idea why or what for. The only similarities I could find was the instrumental which I had been buying from a specific company. A couple of my covers used instrumentals made by them as well so I preemptively took them down in fear of getting another strike (mainly I’m Still Standing and Why Don’t You Do Right but there were a few older ones too).

Part of this still confuses me as there are hundreds of other covers still using those instrumentals and are having no issue. I’m not 100% sure of anything to be honest, I’m just doing my best to keep my channel up and running :’) I hope you folks understand and also forgive me for the wait. I’ll never take down a cover just because I don’t like it. I have certain standards when it comes to my videos. If I don’t like it, I simply won’t post it. Whatever I post is the best I can possibly be at that point in time.

This instrumental was created by Chris Thurman, an absolute BEAST of a man. I’m so incredibly pleased with how it turned out. This one is also available for streaming if you’d like to check that out as well.
