As my journey started in adult coloring mid year 2022 along with my youtube channel, I would like to share what I have learned about the purchases I have made. I made my own opinions on their blending, layering, cost and pigmentation. At the end of this video, I will share my final thoughts and favorite of the 20 I will review for you. I hope this is helpful to you in your coloring/art journey!

That was a great review! After a few years of coloring and acquiring way too much stuff, I recently downsized my collection of over 20 sets. The real winners for me are the Kalour! Richly pigmented, feel good on the paper, huge color range including pastels, metallics, and fluorescents, dissolve nicely with Zest-it, and inexpensive. Other than Prismacolors (which are a unique class unto themselves), I will just use up and not replace the few other sets I kept. I want to keep my hobby simple and relaxing. I also gave away a LOT of books!

Great review Kristina! I really appreciate it!...hope you are having a good weekend. It's rainy and very cool here so i'm staying inside. Good day to finish up on a few coloring pages. I tend to color then get the pages together and embellish them all. Fun! see ya🙋🥰

Hi Kristina! I really enjoyed seeing this video. It was very helpful to me and interesting as well. I have been Coloring since 2009, posting to FB and Instagram since 2014. I fell in love with Arteza Expert Colored Pencils, but lately, you can't get the open stock colors. I wrote to them about needing 2 greens, and to my surprise, they sent me the link to the 120 set. 😡 That was it!
I just purchased the 72 Arrtx and the 72 Kalour, they are both Great, feel good in my hands and blend nicely. Today, I received a Kalour 120 for back-ups and I will be doing the same with the 120 Arrtx.
Thank You for all Your help and hard work to put this Video together and Sharing it! It was Extremely Helpful. 👍🏻💜

Thank you so much for showing me this video. I have a collection going of colored pencils and I want to have it stop because it’s getting expensive. I just want to know which are better to use and then I can finally stop the collecting I’m losing my mind to, because of the cost of every pencil payed for. Thank you again, I like the kalour as well, and I can tell you I have bought them in the past but had given them away. And now I want them back, so I will buy just those ones and be happy about my spending choice :)

I agree, I don’t like using my Prismas for fine details because they are too soft. But for doing a seamless blend I love them. I also think that raam refined pencils are a pretty good dupe for Prismas, they are slightly firmer. They also tend to be uncentered. But if I use my Dahle 133 to sharpen them, they don’t break as often.

Very detailed review..I was thinking about getting the ruby charms chart but I think I only have like 4 or 5 sets. Which are more than enough I think this book might make me want to get more.. hahaha. But it would be nice to have the color family already figured out.. I really do love this review. Thanks for taking the time to do it

God, I’d buy that Kalour set just for the fluorescent ones. They have a wider range than any other collection I’ve seen! 😮

I’m soo late to watch this video, but it was super informative and appreciated. I agree with you on the Derwent Lightfast! I ordered a few open stock and nearly cried when I realized I really disliked them 😭
But I was new to coloring and hadn’t used oil based pencils at all, so I had no idea how to work with them! Now that I’ve been working with colored pencils for 3ish years I would love to try them again. Purely for the color palette! I have no need for lightfast rating, but would absolutely LOVE to find a comparable set color wise. I wish they would expand the Drawing line!

Thank you much for taking the time and effort to review all of these brands. I found it extremely helpful.

I have owned PrismaColor Premire for over 20 years. I do love them. I have tried a few budget set which I have enjoyed.
The Arrtx 120 was delivered yesterday. I was tempted when I saw several creators share that they had dropped sown to $28. Not bad, so I'll give them a try since they are reviewed favorably.
I also enjoy the Black Widows...aren't they gorgeous? It is also kinda novel with the themed sets. It was certainly friendlier on my pocketbook to purchase smaller sets as they were released.
The Indras are lovely as well. I have both the pastels and the regular colors all grouped together.
I am still trying to get used to oil-based pencils. My Polychromos are a little "PRECIOUS" to me at the moment since they are the most expensive I own.
The Square Brutfunnerd have a great feel in my had and I enjoy the color range.
I did invest in the Schpirerr Farben as well. I was intriqued the creators were enjoying them mixed with the Square Brutfrunners. HOWEVER....the main reason why I eventually chose to invest in the Schpierrer Farben was because they can be purchased individually (open-stock) from a seller on Ebay. YAY!
Thanks again for sharing!

Are you from Australia or the USA? Just wondering what dollar we are talking, actually you sound very English ☺️ I was born in England but I have lived in Australia and become an Australian for 50 years now. The time goes so fast, the older you get the faster it goes 🤔

Regarding the Derwent Lightfast.. in my experience they are just garbage and I would recommend anyone wanting to go to that level to go straight to the Luminance and not waste your money.
I started with a 12 of Lightfast and not only was the color selection so poor they didn't even offer a basic primary color set, but the quality was completely unacceptable. I had one that was carved out of a knotted piece of wood and completely mislabeled (yellow ochre, which I had to look up online to even determine what color it was), and a total of three with severely crooked cores, one so bad (scarlet) that I have to carve wood off the tip to use it. Two of my pencils (the yellow ochre and a green) have chunks of another color pigment mixed in the core and you can't lay down a smooth color with them. I ordered a dozen more (at almost $4 each) open stock thinking I just had terrible luck.. and so I had enough to actually color with since the starter set didn't include a mid range blue or a cool toned red LOL, and two more of those have severely crooked cores and one more is actually warped so the entire pencil is crooked. Every brand has a dud now and again, but that is completely unacceptable, especially for what they cost. I seriously regret buying any of them.
In comparison I have never seen a single quality issue in the Luminance, they are very similar in price, have a higher percentage of LF1 rated pencils, more color options, and perform better as well. I find the Lightfast to go down greasy and clumpy on any paper I put them on. All that being said... unless you are selling/framing original works you don't need either brand. Just take your picture to your local print shop and have it scanned and printed out for framing. There are many other pencils that color better than either of them, and cost half the price or less.
