MidiGuitar 2 is a vst plugin that does real time audio to midi. I've seen people use it with violins.

It is a super cool program. I started playing with it and was blown away that this was free and open source. I mentioned it to a friend of mine and the next week she put in her notice where we work together as software engineers to go work at Spotify (on this team specifically I think) :sus. I’ll mention your desire for a real time midi converter so you can use your violin. Who knows maybe she’ll make it happen. I always enjoy your content, I learn something new every time I watch. This is really great! Imagine if someone would combine Spleeter (seperating a song into individual instrument tracks) with Basic Pitch. In theory you could convert a full song into general midi.

I was lamenting a couple of days ago how I was missing Apple’s Music Memos to quickly capture and get down ideas in my head. Though this is a little different, being able to knock out a rough idea into MIDI, and doing it with polyphony especially, is one of those holy grail things. I love this demo; really does put this app tot he test, with really impressive results. I’m certainly gonna have a play with it when I have the time, and would love to get it in an app form so I don’t have to log onto the site all the time. Thanks for this gem, and thanks for showing off what it can do. So great!

I had a piano track stem from a clip I created in AI but it still had small artifacts of other instruments in it. I tried to do the MIDI conversion in my go-to, Melodyne but it was just a garbled mess. So I stumbled upon this site and it did an awesome job of keeping the notes intact, much better than my $700 plugin, I have to admit. Now next level would be the ability to isolate/separate instruments.
